Hi-

I have not riding my ebike for a week, till today I finally take ebike ride and When I start accelerating sudden the rear 9C motor shutter or mad cogs. Is that mean my 9C motor died or what? I did check throttle by my voltmeter and it does show 5v and I also volt meter everything on Lyen controller look good. I have not change or modified anything on ebike - Just same intact as what it was since I built this 2nd ebike.

My 9C is an ebikekit 9x7 DD motor hub. Need help diagnostic

I am running 20s2p, I tested Lyen controller does show 82~83v coming from my LiPo. :(

PS. I tested disconnect all wires from the Lyen controller and test ride my ebike with high gear when I pedalling
and felt like my 9C cogs like mad dragging awful slow me down. It also felt like lot noise coming from 9C motor. I hope it's not damaged inside??? :( :( :(

Get LYEN'S hall and phase GADGIT FOR $29.00. I suspect (hall sensor failure).your motor is most likely ok. :( :(

My ebikekit 9C motor just turned 1 yr and soon 2 mos old. Can't be, If you look at GCinDC's ebike and He is awful reckless and abuse on his 9C still runs good. I have not abuse 9C motor and usually 25mph cruise commuter to work and back home.

if 9C motor hall sensor goes bad and I guess I will buy xlyte 5303 motor or Maxi-Mighty motor. ARGGH

My guess is that corrosion is responsible for a phase wire connector contact failure. The first thing to do is checking all connectors. Another cause may be a short circuit between wires, likely where they are pinched, tied, or inside the axle; where insulation could have been stripped by friction or worn by heat.

Check all this before going to hall sensors, they are cheap but taking the motor apart to replace them is not funny.

I do not have any sign of corrosion anywhere on wires and I did exam all wires look brand new. I never had any accident or damage to my ebike components anything.

+1 on the Lyen ebike tester, with it you can quickly diagnose the problem. Sounds like a loose or shorted wire. Check and clean all connections first. Scratch that. First, turn the motored wheel by hand with everything off. If you feel small jerking resistance, then there's a short. If so, disconnect the phase wires from the controller. If it still does it and no ends are touching, then you have a short somewhere in those 3 phase wires between the inside of the motor that you need to track down. If it spins pretty smoothly then problem is elsewhere. Disco all connectors, clean and reconnect. Check it. When doing trouble shooting checking, lift wheel off the ground and only use a little throttle always during testing till it's running smooth with no load. Giving it a lot of throttle or load by getting on could increase a problem by blowing a controller or something.

Yes, I am plan order Lyen's ebike tester. He said he is getting more in few weeks and anyways, I did remove everything include Lyen controller and I tested ride my ebike without battery, lyen controller and etc. It still awful noise coming from 9C motor.

It sound like the stators hitting the magnet like scrapping lot noise. Look like I will have to remove 9C cover and see inside to find out what's the problem. *Sighs*

If it really destroyed and I might go for xlyte HS40 or 5303 motor.

That sounds like a magnet came loose from the epoxy. Might be able to just reglue it. That takes some heat though, so you may have other issues inside too.

oh damn, my 9C 9x7 motor is just 1 year and 2 mos old.

Question..... Is xlyte HS40 sensor-less motor hub can run over 40+ mph and monster torque?

I know xlyte 5303 is MONSTROUS torque and FAST but I don't want the 24 fets controller due TOO BIG size controller. Maybe, I go for Maxi-Mighty motor and they capable run 40+ mph with nasty torque that what I learned from rebelpilot's review.

Try running it sensorless with a BMS Battery 12Fet universal controller. Those are cheap, around 40 bucks shipped to North America, and eliminate Hall sensors completely. I am running my 9C on one and the they are very close to start immediate at less than .5mph to start, and cost around 40 bucks. Then you would have a spare controller for the road, in case you are on a long tour and something goes wrong with your Halls, or your controller. They are a 48 volt controller though. I get about 1300 watts at 48 volts, which is plenty for me.

@chvidgov.bc.ca - Hi, I bought Lyen 12fets extreme modder controller like last month ago to allow me run 20s2p since I used run Ebikekit controller - I used 15s2p but the LiPo killed Ebikekit controller INSTANT by capacitors blew up. I really don't want overspending on stupid stuff rather want get replacement motor hub so I can take the 9C motor out from my ebike then send it to Edward Lyen for the repair.

I have a question to ask you -chvidgov.bc.ca....... Do the sensor-less motor like xlyte HS40 powerful torque and high speed over 40+ mph?

I am tempting get x5303 motor hub  I see Doctorbass blew his 18fets controller 5th times and x5303 needs 24fets as Edward Lyen said so. Icecube57 used have x5303 and killed his 12 fets twice and he gave up sold his x5303. :(

Thanks for the info!!

Hi...not sure about voltages higher than mine (53.2 operating "full" - 58 fully charged with surface charge). I think they are rated at only 48 nominal 16S, but I've not had any issues with the Ping at 53.2. Not sure what the current limit is - I have hit max amps around 38 amps according to my CA. I'm just a 48 volt e-bike guy - which I'm happy with on my recumbents and trike. I only get around 30mph on my trike on the flats, unassisted. It sounds like this might not be enough controller for your design. I suspect 72 nominal would be too hot for them.

Oh I understand, I occasion over 65A+ burst and 45A continuous on my 9C motor. I run a LiPo 20s2p like i said in my sig stated it clocked between 42-47mph on flat road.

too hot? No NEVER! Because where I live and I work in UPS at preload shift which the time schedule is 3AM to 8AM. The temperature outside always in 40-50F everyday. I checked temperature on my 9C motor always cold if i run just cruise 25mph. NEVER WILL HAVE HOT temperature inside. I promise you.

If you look at GCinDC thread, He is reckless and abuse awful lot and his 9C last 2 years than mine. I guess maybe bad quality defective?

*edit* I checked my CA and found my mistake on ampere rated. Highest ampere burst was 67A and 45A continuous set by Lyen controller. Duh me sorry misunderstanding.
