Henry111's free tech support thread

If there is anything that is perfectly made for your battery, I'd be surprised and I surely don't know about it. As it's been said, that means you are going to have to make the battery box yourself through modifying some other purpose box. The options are many. There are many kinds of boxes made for carrying all kinds of different stuff, some are water proof, some are not. The real problem in my mind comes into play with finding a box with the right fit and getting the padding right. In an ideal world, your bike would never tip and your box would never touch the ground. But this isn't an ideal world. So the box needs to be ready for a fall or two, unless you don't really care about the battery, if that were the case, just wrap the battery in saran wrap and strap it to the rack.

I don't really know about the best padding setup. There are all kinds of foam options to choose from. Some might suggest forms of rubber or something like that as well. This is something I am working on myself, same concept and all that. There is a thread on this forum about home made battery boxes. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12847 Plenty of inspiration there.

Good find on that plano tacklebox. I've been lucky to find old vintage tool boxes that fit my pingbattery perfect. But along the way, I collected about a half dozen that don't quite fit.

Depending on what you need, maybe one of my rejects fits your need. I have several in the 6x6x12" ballpark, and I needed about 13" for my 48v 15 ah ping.

This may help to give ideas! :) This is a great thread!

Try a plastic ammo box like the one listed here:
http://www.sail.ca/en/catalogue/hunting/accessories/?page=3

The ATV Dry Box comes with a plastic tray that can be zip-tied to a bike rack. Then the box can be bungied or strapped into the tray. I have two of these set up now. Waterproof, tough, lightweight. Even has a handle for carrying. I painted mine a nice bright blue.

The more I think about it, the more I think it isn't so much a matter of finding an ideal battery box, there are so many options assuming you aren't trying to fit the battery into a tight space. I think the important matter is packing the battery within the box so it doesn't shift around. I can imagine some folks tossing their battery inside a box and it getting beaten to death. I wouldn't be surprised if that has been the cause of some lipo fires.

I've been searching for a thread or two on what to put in the box with the battery and I've found a good looking thread.

I haven't read most of it yet though.

Motorsport outlets sell battery boxes. People often relocate the battery to the back of the car you see. They come in many shapes and sizes, made using various materials and include clamps. Some sealed and vented through pipe attachments. Only question is, Is your battery battery shaped

The Original posting was 6 days ago, and there are still no measurements forthcoming from the OP regarding his bike, his battery box or his location on the planet. Only an observation.
If I sound like I'm flustered when someone refuses to measure, I'm sorry. Hope I'm not stepping in caca here.

I'm curious to know what company in this industry sells the highest number of kits?
I am asking about kits sold in the USA.
Does anyone have an idea or actually know?

E-BikeKit sells quite a few. But it's possible that lower prices have some ebay sources selling more. That's a good price from that guy you linked to.

Nobody is telling us numbers though, so it's pure guessing who actually sells more. Jason had clearly worked hard to make his kits a good value, but whether he actually sells more of them is hard to say.

Expand the question to north America, and you most likely guess that Grin Cyclery sells more than anybody.

More is not a good comparison point, best is what you should be looking for.
Best quality, best service, best communication, best shipping...

Wallmart sells more bikes, is this making them bikes any better ?
Does this means that Wallmart is the place to buy a bike ?

My grandfather was saying: 100 Lbs of shit, is not worth one pound of sugar.

i am curious about that one too.

if i venture a guess,
it would be this guy
http://stores.ebay.com/Xcceries-Store/_i.html?_nkw=electric+bicycle&submit=Search&_sasi=1&_sid=38748957

and I know sellers on there would run multiple stores
This is the ebay seller for yescomusa.com. I'd say they would have to be close to the top if not number one. I've bought 3 kits from them. Fast service. Appear to stand behind their sells good from what I've read here. They have a big selection of DD kits. This is their home website, and where the ebay kits come from.

yes, I have seen your past posts about them.
have u dealt with their customer service?
I don't see them mentioning a warranty or return policy.

I got a friend who works at a company that operates similar to yescomusa
The owner is from China, living in the US.
the company has operation on both side, shenzhen and california.
email customer support is in china, with live support in cali. (i see that yescom don't have phone support)
product knowledge of their product is pretty minimal, due to the vast variety of products carried.
and most products have either no instructions or poor instructions.
When you email a csr in China, there is always a one day delay due to the time difference, and their english writing ability is poor.
Items are cheap pricewise, and the quality of the products varies.
this company does have a 1year warranty on everything, but does not cover return shipping past 30 days.

Does anybody have as idea as to where ampedbikes might stand in the rankings of companies who sell the most kits?

No, I haven't dealt with customer service. Haven't had a need to. I ordered the kits, installed them, and they all worked.
I have no idea what their warranty is. If you want to know, you can call them (see below) and also get phone support according to one person on this forum that has.
All my kits had nice color instruction booklets with lots of photos (some I've posted here). I heard some didn't. Don't know what's up with that.

thx, somehow missed their number the first time around.
called them, message says they are backed up and just to leave a message, which i did,
see if they will call back.

my friend says his place is usually short staff for CS,
a lots of calls goes to VM and gets deleted....

btw, are all their hub motors the same? 500w vs 800w vs 1000w
just different controllers?

They are massed produced in China and many have defects. .

aren't eveyone's kits mass produced in China ? (other than Bionx of course)

I've had good luck from Ebikekit and Grin, and Ping. All willing to stand behind their product even if there are problems. None are "the cheapest"
I also had good luck from Victpower but I think their days are numbered for A123. I got full tabbed cells in April. Good luck getting them now! Oh yeah agniusm for connector kits but you need A123 cells first. His stuff is first class.

I've had no problems with my yescom/ebay wheel. Definitely the cheapest option out there.

No, they are not the same. I can only verify the 48V 500W vs 48V 1000W. The 500W comes with a 12fet controller. The 1000W comes with a 15 fet controller. Both have 63V caps. The The 1000W is heavier with larger phase wires. Run on the same controller and battery pack, the 1000W top speed was 31mph while the 500W was only 24mph iirc. They also had different numbers on the motors. The 500W was HBS-48V500W and the other was HBS-48V1000W, with serial number following each part number. You might note that these are Goldenmotor part numbers. Whether from GM or clones, I couldn't tell you.
