....I might tinker with the hall sensors as a side project. Where do I buy Hall sensors?

In the USA Mouser is where I get them. They aren't as cheap as the Chinese ones from eBay, but they are genuine. I use SS41's. Check the numbers on your blown Halls to see if they are indeed 41's. I haven't seen a video on the process. I am sure they are out there.
