I saw this brake a while ago and would love to have just the lever to activate the motor cut off when i pull my brake lever, Just now i have Avid Juicy 3 hydraulic brakes and i saw this TEKTRO Dorado system, i was wondering if i can use the TEKTRO lever with my avid Juicy Brakes?

Also where would i get a hold of the Tektro Brake Lever? or anything similar.

I really like the way Tektro has a 2 stage pressure system, first stage of pressure switches off otor then more pressure applies the brakes.

the brake system from TEKTRO:

a link to a small video showing how the system works:

Those look very nice, should be an upgrade from the Juicy's for stopping power, but not by much. If I remember correctly, your Avids use Hydraulic brake fluid while these use mineral oil so these seals inside are not compatible. But then why would you want to only buy the levers? Most likely ordering the levers seperately will be same price as the package as a whole.

Your probably right Etard, i wouldn't mind having to buy the whole brake, just need to know where i can purchase them?

Ive found a brake from the same series , its the TEKTRO auirga E-Comp

here: http://stage.ebikessf.com/catalog/48

$80 huh? I'm guessing the Dorado should be around $100. Not bad for a quality ebrake. Did you contact SF Ebrakes about the Dorados?

I didn't contact them but il mail them now if they are a distributor surely they can get there hands on it. I didn't see much difference on the spec sheet on those brakes but the actual caliper looks larger on the dorado's.

I got the TEKTRO AURIGA E-COMP, great set of brakes I must say. I was using avid Juicy 3 and these have more stopping power with just the front brake. I will install the back brake too but might wire that one up to a brake light at the back of my bike.

ebikessf (ilia) does have in stock, I attempted installation the tektro hydro ebrake lever and caliper on Yuba Mundo but it wasn't fit due ilia doesn't have the proper adapter caliper size for my Yuba.

ilia has good deal on some parts. Just give ebikessf a call or email him.

It apparently the Yuba needs use 185mm brake disc. Ilia tried installing the old version 180mm brake disc and it wasn't fitting due didn't have a proper caliper adapter height. I can't remember however I called Yuba headquarter and they said that I need to use a new version 185mm not 180mm(old version).

Ilia and I gave up and right now, we are busy with the moving to new place this week.

Was something special needed, or just a standard adapter? What is the Yuba's disc brake setup?

wouldnt buy anything tektro. they come on walmart bikes FFS. never seen a DH rig with tektro. I actually consider them a "fake" part....... the hydro one i had seal was blown after 2 days, the mech disk caliper counlnt even stop the bike lol . I wish the best of luck with yours but im sticking to avid, hayes, magura, i know theres others..... juicy fives my fave right now....

I have a juicy avid 3 on the rear and using this tektro on the front, It feels great with good feedback and stopping power, also shuts of the power to my motor as advertised with a two stage effect, can pull it a little bit to shut off motor then a little more to apply brake, pretty good review from me. I can't fault them.

I have tried the Tektro ebrake hydraulics & they're not bad. More of a recreational product then performance/racer.

My preference if ebrakes are wanted is the Magura pressure sensor which can be run in-line with any hydraulic brake:

http://www.ebike-easy.com/products/Bicycle-Parts/BionX-Press-Switch-for-Magura-brakes.html

That way you retain the ebrake functionality but are not tied to a specific brake set.

[edit] just fyi, Magura brakes use mineral oil, so best to use the pressure switch with a mineral oil type hydraulic brake.

The twin calipers are nice for the dual disc front brakes such as the forks from Accountant that I got with my Greyborg kit.

Other vendors have dual calipers such as Gatorbrake.

DOT brake fluid is very hard on things like paint.

A pressure switch like the Magura requires some braking before it actuates, the sensors on the levers can be set to actuate before any braking occurs which is nice for regen first sequencing.

Hygia caliper looks to have the larger brake pad (Shimano XTR is wider/longer than Deore mechanical one used in Tektro caliper.

Shimano also comes on Walmart bikes and they have the best components money can buy so this isn't always the case. I would agree that Tektro sucks (although that's what I use on my race bike) but it seems they are trying to break into the ebike scene with decent components so I'd be willing to bet cost was not the only consideration when they built these brakes. Brakes are brakes IMHO, of course some "feel" better and have better modulation of power but it mostly comes down to the pad and whether you want long lasting or stop on a dime power.

Reading the reviews on the MTB forum the Hygia gets the thumbs up.

I agree that pads can make a world of difference and is propably part of the reason people are put off by Tektro. The stock OEM pads that come with the Tektro Aquila (mechanical disc) are crap, one set only lasted 220km. Switched over to the Ashima SOS multi compound pads sinter/organic/sinter and they last 3 times longer and give better feel at the lever.

I'm just about to go out and try my new Juicy 3 hydraulic front with G2cs 185mm rotor :)
I put this wheel together last night and installed the hydraulic system.

How do you like the Juicy 3's. I've read thru bike forums and people cut down
all sorts of products......can't make heads or tails out of any of it :(

A friend of mine works in a bicycle shop as head mechanic. I got these for a good
friend PRICE but I said to him that I don't want them if they are not good. He had
nothing bad to say about the Avid Juicy 3. :) I trust a guy when he's got over
100,000 dollars worth of personal bikes in his basement..... lol

Tommy L sends..... \\m// going for a ride!
