Hey gang, ya miss me ?
I've been flat out with end of year stuff for work, then away for xmas and now back for the rest of the week before heading back to the salt mine.
My plans to get stuck into all my outstanding part finished projects doesn't look like happening to any great extent at this rate!
And top of my list is now fixing my stealth fighter. I took it out for a ride the other day and only got a short distance from home before it died. I was riding some tight single track and although it was performing very well but I think all the current multiplication that must have been going on with the high speed wind batshit motor was too much for the controller. The phase wires were hot but shouldn't have resulted in failure. I upgraded the connectors after the previous ones melted the solder off twice and the motor wasn't otherwise overly hot so that suggests controller. I'm surprised it didnt let go sooner really, the 18 fet regularly pushing 100 amps through high speed motors.
I have 3 replacement options, another crystalyte 18 fet, a medium sized KEB kelly or a big 350 phase amp sinewave sabvoton.
The sinewave one would be sweet but is a little too large for the frame realistically so it's back between the other 2.

How's that cold weather there currently? It's still miserable here
Just Shitty, more snow today. Very beautiful pic of the commuter with that background. When I think of Australia, I think of the Sydney Opera House and the sail like structures in the back ground.
Those sail like structures ARE the opera house
Smoked your clutch already, is it fading and slipping on you as well?
Nah not slipping yet, just sounds bad. The mechanic said it sounded like the clutch plates and just to ride it until it blows up / starts slipping.
I've also been trying to revive my old dirt bike that's been sitting untouched for the last ~3 years. I can't get it to kick over beyond the 2 seconds of run time I get from squirting petrol into the spark plug hole. I tried cleaning the carby but still no dice (infact I think I've buggered it in attempting to remove and clean it as the the throttle cable is now floppy with no return throttle spring action at all) Urggh, I remember now why I prefer electrics! Atleast I know from the few seconds of run time I got from "direct fuel injection" that the engine is OK and it's just a fuel/carby issue. This is good news as the 140cc lifan engine it has is apparently pretty decent with a stronger gearbox and clutch than other similar engines and it's a direct bolt up to the madass should I decide to go down that route. Not that I really want to, but the more I ride it the more I like having gears so it'd be cool if I could run the electric motor through the existing gearbox or something purpose built.
I'm uploading a vid now from my recent trip down south where I caught up with full throttle and samd and I'll try and get some more up shortly. I guess I should make a 2013 year in review video too if I can find a few spare days to edit it all!
