I go from 48v to 60v and no increase in top speed

Thats why I mentioned nicad to him, but again, talk to ebikes ca and tell them what you think you need to do and take their advice. They can tell you what thier batteries can do and what they can't.

ebikes.ca said that they can put a 5303 motor on a 26" rim for me but I forgot to ask them about the battery.

the reason I chose an electric bike is because I'm very anti-establishment. I don't like Government. I want to be able to ride my bike without being pulled over and I certainly don't like these new cameras going up on the stop lights that take pictures of your license plate and send you a ticket. That's why I want to see if I can get everything done with just a bike. I want to give it one year and see what I think. My parents house is about 4 miles away so I want to be at least be able to make it their house and back. I haven't tried it with 60v so I'm going to do that maybe tomorrow. I was going to do it today but I just didn't get going.

The greedy ba$tards will probably start requiring bicyclists to have a displayed license of some sort just to track them and fine them for not stopping at a red light when the cameras catch them.

O $hit, you're kidding right? New cameras?

New 35 years ago maybe.

pretty new in my state, here in the USA...we still don't have those speed trap cameras yet but the west coast does.

I think eventually most of the USA is going to be like the UK where there are cameras all over the place. I think the reason gas is going up is because they want people to migrate to the city because the country is too big to have cameras everywhere. Besides, the rich people want the country to themselves. If I was rich, that's what I would do. Make houses and gas to expensive and so the poor all have to move to the city.

Wait, isn't the title of this thread "I go from 48v to 60v and no increase in top speed" ?
What gives?

I tried top speed but I didn't try distance. The 60v should solve the low voltage cutoff problem so I can see exactly how far these batteries will take me.

Makes sense that its a direct drive, when I tried it didn't feel like I expected a geared hub to feel. Since we know that now, I can tell you its in in the wrong rim, I have a clyte 407 and it's not very good at accelerating, but its much better than the forsen, and you saw how my nine continents motor accelerates. your motor should be comparable to mine, but it was much slower off the bat, and its no load speed is much higher.
I think you will still get poor range even if you go slower since you wont be in the motors peak efficiency range. Really sucks that you got a damaged motor and its not built up right either. If you put it in a smaller rim, you should get better acceleration, range, and maybe the same or a little higher top speed.
If you dont want to do that(I probably wouldn't want to) I think you should try a ampedbikes.com kit(9x7 type motor) you might get to 28-30 mph with the batteries you have(and maybe 10 miles range, more if you go slower). It's about 420$ shipped I think(you probably should have gotten something like this in the first place, it isn't much more than the discounted forsen kit you got, and it would be new, includes a charger(a crappy 36v one) and its already wired up(with crappy connectors, but it works)). You can try mine out if you like sometime to compare.

what's the quietest time on the road? is it about 10am when everyone is at work? or is at 1pm or 2pm ? I just did a bike ride during rush hour traffic 4:30 - 5:30 pm and it was pretty hard to ride. An 18-wheeler almost hit me. He didn't want to get over.

It went 4.5 miles until the motor started cutting out. LVC. Can we take that LVC off the controller somehow? I think these batteries could go 8 miles or more but that LVC holds it back. I'll put on 72v if I have to then I'll have more voltage room for it to deplete. Nomad, do you have one more CSB 12v 9ah battery?

I have tons more. 3 new and a bunch that I used once or twice. I don't know how to disable the LVC but I bet someone does, you would need a new controller to do 72v, so keep that in mind.

Once your controller is a fried guinea pig, you can buy a 24-72v controller. Meanwhile, order some spokes and a 20" wheel.
