Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of electrifying a specialized enduro with a cyclone 3000w mid drive kit (full build thread to follow).

and plan to mount my 2 battery backs either side of the top tube (see picture). I am keen to make everything as robust as possible to allow me to ride (and crash.... alot) as I would a non electric mountain bike.

Do you guys think it would be ok to encase each battery in 3mm thick aluminum? I am concerned about heat build up

There are only going to over heat if abused. A 10a cell should be used at 6amp you have to leave some room. What cell are you using ?

Great thanks, I'm going to use a besttech HCX-D166 bms. I should think that'll offer some protection against malfunctions. I looked at the cell specification sheet which says they can go 200C .... sorry for noob questions. It's my first build

I wouldn't worry more about heat dissipation for an aluminum case than for a plastic or fiber case, aluminum is a pretty good conductor of heat. If you wrap the packs in some kind of material that's good at transferring heat, I think you'll have pretty good thermal performance overall. There are others on here that can probably recommend a material like this better than me.

You skipped my question what amp is the controller what brand name and sell they are they aren't 200C they might be 5C are you going to use as 10s 8p or 20s 4p. At 80 volts or 40volts ? A 40amp controller ?

Not sure what the make the controller is, it's the standard one that comes with the cyclone kit. It's rated at 40amps and 72v. The pack is 20s4p. The cells are Samsung INR18650-30Q 3000mAh. I meant 200 centigrade rather than 200c discharge. Sorry for the confusion
