Intense M3 + Clyte HT3525 + HD video

Nice score on the handlebars. Carbon bars and seatpost will look awesome with the red. And as we know, red and black goes well on your chopped frames

good for you paul i was going to go for red but went for white handle bars look very cool i just finished my centre stand today and it works very well so no more leaning on the lamp post or fence will ad photos at weekend
Rodger, white looks ace on these frames so i think you made a wise choice. Are you still going to use carbon vinyl decals?
Your centre stand has me intrigued, can't wait to see the pics :)

Ta mate yeah i'm chuffed, it should all tie in nicely. Red and black sure does go together well on the chopped frames, how well is your's coming along?
Have you got it finished yet or are you busy building quad copters to perve on your 18yr blonde DD breasted next door neighbour aaaahhhh i mean to record your rides? :p

A fresh coat of Dulux Flame Red powdercoat went on today :) My camera doesn't pickup the colour properly funny enough as the flash shot shows.
Torque arms copped a few coats of black paint to tidy them up, now the rebuilding has begun...
I'm thinking of replacing the Intense sticker with a piece of carbon fibre 3M Di-Noc vinyl, i'll see if it grows on me 1st

Dang you Timma!!!!
That is some beauty work.
Not too bulky and kept it all nice and clean.
Let me know when my frame is ready for delivery :D :D :D .

I gotta break my bike out and ride....just been sooo hot lately around here.
Plus my bike is due for a tear down and rebuild - linkage points and head set cleaned and re-lubed etc. and just overall check of frame and components. But I need to get out and ride.

May have to break down and get some lights for some night riding!
Trails are empty at night (except of coyotes and Cougars) and nice and cool.

NICE WORK!!

That looks so good!!! With the paint and decals, the battery box really blends into the bike. As a hub powered ebike, I really dont know how you could improve on this.

Just looking at your derailleur, you really have it tucked up. Is that how its meant to sit? I would really like my derailleur to tuck like that. What brand is that?

The only negative I can see with this bike is that with the small ring gear, you wont be able to offer much pedal assistance at high speeds. Probably not a big issue though for what the bike is designed for. This where the Schlumps come in really handy.

That's looking SLICK mate, very very nicely done. Depending on the look you're going for I'd avoid big patches of CF. The stock stickers make it look like an off the shelf bike at a glance. If you see a bit CF side profile it might draw more attention. They do look good and I like them on my fighter but then it's not very subtle to start with.

Oh and mine is finally together. If I could get a solid half day to work on it and finish off the battery pack tidy up all the wiring it'd be ready to ride.

AWESOME! Love it, I would leave the sticker, it makes it look less "E" and tends to shrink it. I WOULD however put another sticker on the other aide and trim it so you can take the cover off, would look nice symmetrical..

Awesome ROG, the stickers were a great idea, makes it really stealth. I'm almost finished mine :) and totally stuck what colour to make it, a matte black? An anthracite grey? Or go crazy with bright orange or electric blue.

Also if you do get troubled by that small chain wheel just fit a schlumpf drive :)

I hear ya re the heat, some summer days just drain ya so much you just don't wanna ride eh. Might be the perfect time to do the tear down and maintenance your bike needs, then it'll be good to go when the heat subsides and the days get to that perfect inbetween temp. Haha i've always wanted to do night trail rides! Good lighting would be needed thats for sure, especially to keep an eye out for cougars and coyotes!!!

Thanks Kepler. After seeing this comment i went out and checked the mounting of the derailleur - I hadn't mounted it correctly when screwing it on... However i put it on properly for the pics below so it's still fairly well tucked up still. It's just a Sram X-5 sitting in 8th gear.

Yeah it is a bit top speed pedalling limited but its a compromise I'm happy to live with. When choosing the chainring size, i took into account what speed range i'd be using it for the majority of riding and decided to target the 10-45kph zone for cruising slowly with the girlfriend through to tight to medium single track. And after riding it last summer in 40deg heat on an 8km ride unpowered, i wanted gearing that wouldn't be too hard to pedal longish distances should i mis-calculate distance or have a drama and have to pedal it home.
A Schlump would be ideal but i'm not sure if they fit a 100mm bottom bracket...

Ta dude. I hear ya re the large carbon patches, their not the best way to fly under the radar but i love the look of them!
And besides, like your Fighter, this bike aint the most subtle either! I'll keep the writing for now but that could change in a month or so (or the next time i have a few too many cold drinkies in the shed lol).

Sweet, not nuch to go then. Hurry up and get it finished! :p I can't wait to see the final product, it'd make for a great commuter I reckon.

Nicely done! Red is so much better. Looks close to the original Intense red.Video please!
Cheers FT, yeah its pretty close to the OEM red. Funny enough this frame started out black, then the previous owner painted it white and now its red.
You could say its lived a coloured life
Vids will have to wait a bit longer yet, i find out this week how much the ATO is going to bend me over so depending on how that pans outs, will affect how long till I get a GoPro 2 in my grubby little hands...

Idontwanttopedal said:
Like the red. It looks a lot smaller now it in colour
Having consistant colour has definately changed the way the bike looks, looks more unified now eh.

Thanks Whiplash. Gee i just dunno about the large sticker, i've taken the stripes off and will leave the writing for now... Yeah i'll put the other one on the LHS on the battery cover to even it up nicely.

Haha mistaken identity! :p
Cheers BatFink. Have you decided on a colour yet? Its hard to decide hey, whether to go a subtle stealthy colour or a loud bright one!

Slow progress on the rebuild. The 1st set of RaceFace bars turned up friday so they went on along with the original Intense badge on the headtube and some Di-Noc bits on the swingarm to protect it from chain slaps. I also took the grey and black bits off the large Intense sticker, i think it looks a bit better than before but it still might get taken off in favour of more Di-Noc... I painted the 18fet black, bastard of a job to get the paint to go into the heat sink ribs nicely!
I've also got a brake line kit on the way to replace the rear Juicy 3's white brakeline, it just doesn't look right in white!

The bike won't be ready for a few weeks yet but i'll need to get it done by late September as we're heading up to Geraldton again to watch the 2012 Australian Safari and i'd like to get the bike autographed by a bike racer I follow - Benny Grabham. I just hope he ( now as a KTM rider) doesn't mind signing a red bike

But yeah, this weekend hopefully she'll be rolling. I think I might paint my forks black to match the swing arm and the red/black theme. What do you reckon ? The last of my issues are my own doing, in getting you to make it to the frame dimensions I specified to keep the size to an absolute minimum I've not left myself much room to fit the wiring. I usually parallel charge but given my new you beaut balance chargers I'm thinking I can just bulk charge it and have a single centronics plug plug in the outside for when balancing is required.
Anyway that's off topic, back to your pornography :p

Thats quite a melodias esc you have there, is it not arming correctly?
Yeah go on paint the forks black, it'd be a bit more subtle and look more intergrated colour wise
What hub did you end up putting on it, a 4080?

Ah bugger! Have you enough room to atleast hard wire the packs together? If you still want to be able to un plug them from each other, some deans plugs might be the way to go, their quite small physically but still flow a decent amount of current :) Bulk Charging would be the way to go, besides if your not deep discharging the packs, they won't need balancing too often anyway will they?

Nah won't calibrate the ESCs properly so 3 of the 4 props spin up and the 4th is out of whack so it won't lift off or tries to flip on it's head

Was originally going to run a mac for a lightish/subtle build but currently have a HS3540 on it. H40 would be nice for a powerful commuter but then I'd need an 18 fet and everything snowballs.

Yeah there's room for that - probably even jamming the existing bullets with their housings on. but if not removing the plastic cover and heatshinking them would be fine for clearance. The problem is in mounting the andersons vertically in the plate like i was planning. I could just run the wires outside but I want to keep it neat. I suppose I could put a charge port further up on the neck where there's space though.
And yeah balancing is really a non issue. I do it so infrequently that removing the cover plate when necessary is probably going to be easier.

My Giant DH Comp is sitting in my new garage thinking pretty much what eveything else in my life is thinking right now: "Hurry up and finish your @%*#&*@ PhD!" Yeah, not had a lot of time for it in a while. That should change soon, hopefully. Your posts have inspired me to try to make some time for the bike.

Shit sorry mate, dunno why i said it was a Stinky, brain fade lol. Well i think you know what you have to do - hurry up and finish your damn PhD! :p
Time can be hard to divide up sometimes, i guess you'll have time for the bike soon enough. Hopefully sooner than later!

Tricopter perhaps? Did you get the ESCs sorted?

Szymon - Thanks mate :)

Its finally finished :) Well almost... I just need to add some stick on foam in the battery area and its good to go.
The last pic shows a precharge resistor setup so no more sparks and loud cracking sound that made me crap myself each time i plugged it in lol.
The same pic shows all the throttle wires shortened and soldered directly to the controller and the shortened CA wiring, doing both of these cut out about 4 - 5ft of wiring that'd been getting in the way in the frame housing.
I also bled the rear brake lastnight after adding a new brakeline and feeding it through the frame, man what an overly complicated job bleeding an Avid brake is!

Now i've got to get Mel's bike built in 4 nights from tomorrow due to the bloody powdercoater not finishing the frame by last friday as they'd promised
and theres quite a bit to do on her bike before we leave for the Safari up north this coming friday morning. Although if the next 7 days of rain they're predicting actually happens, we won't take the bikes and all this rushing around will have been for f%ck all lol

Yep 18S2P. With the higher speed motor I spent the majority of my commute today in the 70% mode which topped out at 55-60ks which is fast enough for the job. Consumption was good too, only 5ah for the 16km trip so I take back my previous comments. Ridden sensibly they CAN be economical and fast.

Did you get the ESCs sorted?
ESCs were OK, turned out to be a dud flight controller. I'm going to get different type as a replacement - spend a bit more and get one with GPS and all manner of other cool shit 8)

Its finally finished :)
Very well done mate, that looks fantastic. I don't think I've seen a better looking hub motor build on the forum.
I'm sure there'd be no shortage of people queing up to offer their left testicle for that. Do you reckon you'd walk funny with an extra one sewn in there ?
You keeping the blue pedals ? They're the only thing that look slightly out of place to my eye.

Looking forward to seeing Mel's bike finished off too.
Your handywork on my DB was admired by many on friday night at the 2 e-bike shops I parked outside during the course of the the group ride.
A few people said "oh is that one of the stealths... no wait, it's too small. What IS that ? Where do I get one ?" :)
Not totally finished off the wiring yet but it's near enough to finished - here's a pic in my build thread
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8482&start=1740#p638626

man what an overly complicated job bleeding an Avid brake is!
That's good to know, the avid codes on the front of my diamond back badly need bleeding (I have to pull them all the way to the grip to get the bike to stop) but I'll put it off for now!

Cheers Whip

Holy crap, 55 - 60kph @70%! Man that must be tempting to stick it in 100 or 120% and twist it all the way
16km / 5ah is pretty reasonable, were you pedalling much?

Nah. Although they have sentimental value (bought 'em while living in London 8yrs ago and have been on every bike since), i felt the same way as you and have these bright babies coming in the post from CRC this week:
