Interchange parts between TSDZ2B and TSDZ2

I am wondering if parts supply for the TSDZ2 will drop off, so my first thought is to fit a TSDZ2B a main gear assembly into a TSDZ2 mid-drive as I may have a TSDZ2 with the one way bearing which is about to pack up and I not in the position to able to hammer / press a new bearing in. As pointed out before to me I would have to change the main gearing cover to suit the "B" version, but I looked at the out seal for the cover and it seems to be the same for both mid-drives. Even thought about the blue gear as well. I am looking at this as I have three TSDZ2s and one TSDZ2B. I had not problems with TSDZ2s, the one I ride at the moment most has done over 2500 miles (4000 km) without any problems running the OSF and the triple bearing axle mods, your thoughts.

Over in TSDZ2B land, that bearing isn't for sale separately. You have to buy the entire gear with it, Some of us have gotten away with cleaning/relubing it when it slips. We have about 1400 miles on ours since it started slipping, and we cleaned it.

It's always been a replacement on the TSDZ2, so maybe you might give cleaning it a shot.

Yep, being a very old fashion engineer will get the de-greasing spray out, clean and relub the bearing. Already just had the drive apart to grease up the axle. check the bearings and seals. I have also re-torqued the drive locking ring up as it had slackened off, must fit the TSDZ2B version. See how we go.

Which bearing are we talking about? My first TSDZ2 stalled at 9933km. Was so happy with it.
See picture below. If what is in the red circle is a bearing, it is totally crushed into fine steel powder and does not turn anymore.
If it is a bearing, can it be replaced?

I looked into whether to replace that 2214 needle roller bearing a few years ago and decided against it due to all the work involved. The torque sensor needs to be unsoldered and removed to provide clearance for the bearing to come out. Before that, an eyeless circlip has to be removed (pain if you don’t have the right tool).

The torque sensor will then need to be recalibrated after reinstall.

edit: Try getting the eyeless circlip off first by not removing the torque sensor. It it clears, maybe the bearing will also clear, then you don't have to deal with recalibrating the torque sensor.

The three bearing mod is for the axle that passes this assembly, that may be a 28mm od x 16mm wide needle roller bearing at a guess not sure if you can replace as you will most likely have to strip the load cell off and re-calibrate, I would consider a new assembly perhaps.

As per Zambam reply

PS those eyeless circlips are a right pain in the backside even when one has the right tool, use to watch engineers remove 3" diameter clips and one need safety glasses etc on, thank god on the on the actuators that took 10" diameter circlips they were the eyed version, there had been a few times when they had taken taken off across the shop.

TSDZ2B crank gear showing its two clutches, The TSDZ2 does not have the outer sprag clutch, just a version of the inner one , which some people replace.

With our TSDZ2B, the pedals started slipping at 1600 miles. If you backpedalled, you could position the sprags so the pedals spun freely forever. None of the teeth would engage. I ordered a new gear, but tried re-oiling the clutch. We put on another 50 miles over the weekend. I'm not the first one to have done this. I found other posters talking about it 4-5 years ago.

So it's toss up between the two drives be it a TSDZ2 or TSDZ2B or to "B" or not to "B" that is the question, whether to go bearing hammering or not, Shakespeare said something like that I think in Hamlet. Anyway to be fair not had to much trouble with the TSDZ2s, but thinking about a repair option, have managed to order a spare TSDZ2 main gear assembly for $50 to keep ready for when the existing bearing packs up, then I will look local for someone who could press a new bearing for me.

That's why they are sometimes called Jesus Clips, as in "jesus where the **** did it go?!?!?!!" ;)
