I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can buy a motor, mount it on a rim, buy controllers and stick them together with the right batteries from some other source, but for the rest of us, who need to buy something in a kit form, what are the best ones around? I know about Amped Bike kits and the Hill Topper already. Specificially, I was thinking of something along the lines of a 20" front hub motor for a low-wheel bike already mounted on the rim, along with controller, battery pack, and charger, and all the hardware, just like with the two companies I mentioned...but slightly larger...say 48 volt and 1000 watt? I see this very thing posted on E-bay, but I don't know if those offerings are reputable or not or if the set-ups are good. The Amped Bike site says some of these are just 500 watt motors that are being over-stressed. What is your best bet for a powerful motor in a complete kit for around $1,000 ? I am assuming, since the legal max is often 36 volt and 750 watts, and 25 mph, that some people are stretching this a little by making a more powerful set up. Right? I mean, the more powerful motors don't say 1000 Watts stamped in big letters on the motor or anything if you were to get stopped and not have a motorcycle license for the set-up. I keep seeing 9th Continent, Crystalye and others. What is a good kit and a good motor with slightly over the legal limit for an e-bike? Thanks, dkw

When I started researching like you seem to be I found this site.

http://www.electric-bikes.com/

from there click on the bike and you see a bunch of links.

A lot of that info is outdated , but if you soak it all in it gives you a good place to start.

I bought my 1st kit from amped and while it worked out decent I wish I would have done more research on battery technology
before buying their tube battery.

best place is http://ebikes.ca

some of the others like methtek, cell-man, amped and e-bikekit.com and hightekbikes and the like actually check stuff and help if you have problems.

most of the rest just seem to stick a new shipping label on the box from china and send it on to you, without even making sure it will all plug in together.

Yep I agree with Amber 100% and plan to use those vendors for all future products or have.

When new It just took myself a while to work thru all the different vendors - read about the one's on the forums and figure out
who was worth giving your hard earned money that could back it up with a good product and support.

I agree, you don't need a long list of vendors, just a short list of the best ones.

The best ebike vendor on the planet, Grin cyles Aka Ebikes.ca. Ships from Canada http://www.ebikes.ca/index.shtml

Another one known for great customer service is E-BikeKit Ships from the east coast USA

Methods, in the for sale section sells some good stuff as well. Ships from the west coast USA

And in the straight from China category, Cellman. Cellman is the guy, for a great A123 lifepo4 battery pack. Has great deals on motor kits as well. Good CS, but from china.

In battery only, Pingbattery.com for 20 amps. Hobby King for 20 amps on up.

In the nearly as good category, Amped bikes, Highteck bikes, Electricrider, conhismotor.

Just stay away from unknown ebayers, who have a kit but really seem to have just feedback on one dollar items. I'm not a big fan either, of bms battery, or anything alibaba.
