Is this a sickness?

My first ebike kit is still in transit and I'm already thinking about building something else.

Perhaps based on one of these 80cc GP motorcycles.

Product of not being able to afford a Tesla maybe?

If you like/love to ride - eBikes merely intensify the enjoyment and will create what I define as "addiction" or sickness.

But as I told the wife going over bank/card statements - at least it's not a Crack habit...

Too late, I think you are already hooked on eBikes.

Is it an addiction? A sickness? Or a healthy pursuit that occupies you in the workshop and gets you out riding?

Who cares, like Ypedal says, it doesn't damage the bank account that much… really…

Hmmm, that sounds kind of like crack guy looking at his thinning wallet I suppose. Rationalization? A counselor might call me on it. But I've never pawned stereo for bike parts… yet. Though I'd sure like a new battery, latest chemistry, high C rate, big capacity.

I think you are ok. But be careful.

Nothing sick about it. Not a fever so much as a developing PASSION. Little boy, little league, BIG home run. Now he's dreaming of the World Series. . . .

My thoughts have been on one of these first, then maybe an 80cc. http://minipocketrockets.com/x7-super-pocket-bike/ over the course of all my being rebuffed as 'Out of Stock,' the price sure has gone up.

Well hell, we've got to think big… Drew Barrymore on a swing, or LFP's death bike… WOO HOO!!!… life is short, fantasy is long.

Meanwhile, I'm happy camper in reality. Nice lady, and a couple fun bikes.

Yeah, it is definitely OCD for me. Part of my dog like personality. 26000 posts, oh yeah definitely a metal illness.

I started out interested in making my house more efficient, step one of going PV solar. (which I still can't afford the financing for)

Then I started looking at converting a car. Doing some quick math, I realized the big hill climb up from the town was going to be tough on lead. So I looked at lithium. More stuff that looked real expensive.

Then I looked at converting a motorcycle with lithium. Still pretty expensive. At that point, I still had never heard of an electric bike. Then I saw an ad for Wilderness Energy kits. Lies all over the page but I bought the kit. Which disappointed me unbelievably. ( poor range on the lead) About that time another search for lifepo4 turned up V for voltage, and discussions about some new guy in china selling lifepo4 named Li Ping. That fixed the range problem. I knew all along lead would never get me all the way to work and back.

Next thing I know, I'm sending money to china, and my wife thinks I just got suckered really bad. And I'm spending 4 hours a day reading the V and then ES. That was the summer of 08, gas prices went crazy, and I was laughing my ass off every time I rode by the big line at the cheaper station on my ping powered ebike.

Yes, this is a OCD, for which there's not much help available, run,and never look back, while you still can.

Yes, there is no cure-not even a 12 step program :( :(

My story is similar to Dogman's, but I dui got my license revoked and riding a bicycle again. So the first ebike I got was an ezip and it wasn't long until I found this forum and up went the voltage on that bugger! Next thing you know it's a cyclone build, bmc build, minimotor build, 9 c build and lipos everywhere! Anyhow this is the best damn hobby/transportation habit I have ever had~~`~ I even have a Deathrace trophy for just finishing a race that I was definitely not going to win....~ LOL
I have had fun souping up the kids electric scooters too! Put some lipos in those bad boys and I really got my money's worth!
:p

Don't you mean a 12v step program :D

No, no sickness. It's just the awesomeness of a regular guy being able to so easily build his own primary transportation device. Of course each subsequent ebike needs to be better in some way.

Yep, it's bad. I've had it all my life.

Let's see: started with skateboards. I can't count how many I owned.

Then surfboards (I'm now down to two since I don't live near the ocean anymore).

I hate to admit that golf had me for a couple years (now I can't even imagine participating in that horrible, punishing, torturous sport).

E-bikes off and on. It's very satisfying to build one and have it work well. But to just leave it at that? Not easy. I've built three now (but have one).

Photography is the one that sticks. I bought a whole bunch of stuff, but I make a few bucks on the side to pay for equipment, so that helps.

I'm glad that the bug never got me in terms of family. Same wife and kids. For that I'm grateful. Before we had kids it was a real fear of mine that I'd grow bored of them and be a bad father. But that never happened. Now I'm getting sad that they are teenagers and won't be here forever.
