Cannot get bluetooth to connect to controller. Message on screen is bluetooth connection failed or bluetooth flash failed. Also which way up does the 4 pin plug go into the bluetooth dongle. To me it looks to fit either way.

It shouldn't fit the wrong way. Look at the wires, red to red, black to black etc.
You have it paired I assume? I've had issues like these before it might be a bad dongle or even the controller. I have dongles that only connect after trying for 20 times, but on my other controller the same dongle connects every single time.

The most reliable way to connect to a Kelly is through the PC rs232 serial Port.

Appreciate your response, it shows that it is paired but since separating the plug from the dongle and I can't be sure which way is up with plug I am too apprehensive about something going wrong.
I have the rs232 cable and Have tried connecting the controller to my laptop. Even though when connected the laptop recognises there is a com port connection in device manager the controller isn't recognised and connection fails.?

Is the ignition turned on? like I said, you can identify the plug orientation by the wire colors.
