la Nina rears her ugly head

Latest forecast indicates a significant "atmospheric river" event headed my way starting tomorrow night. Latest QPF map shows around 4" over the next week at my location. This is good, as we really need the rain to refill the reservoirs. Sucks for people who took vacation between Christmas and New Year because it will be raining most of the time. There could be flooding and debris flows around some of the burn scars from the big fires.

Tuesday NightCloudy. A slight chance of showers in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows 50 to 55. Chance of rain 50 percent. Rainfall up to a half of an inch possible.

Weather Service is calling this a "Category 4" atmospheric event. I didn't know they had categories, but I think it means I'll get more rain. 7 day precipitation forecast looks pretty juicy unless you are in west Texas. Flood warnings have been issued around here for streams, rivers and urban flooding.

Two days of 41F in Minnesnowta and the streets and roads are dry and clear. Looks like good riding albeit a bit chilly.

2.8" here since Friday. Today is supposed to be sunny and clear. More rain coming next week. The ground around my house still isn't saturated and there was very little runoff from the rain. Like a big sponge that was really dry to start with. The 7 day precip forecast is showing 4"-5" here. That should saturate things and get some good runoff into the reservoirs.

Slept through it last night, now it’s raining hard enough to make the dog bark. Probably a brief shower, showing up on the radar.

Now a little lightning and thunder to liven things up. Glad to have an early warning dog, now to teach him to bark before an earthquake.

The 7 day precip forecast is looking almost scary. This is what we need to refill the water supplies but there will be flooding. The yellow areas (and I'm along the edge of one) are looking to get over 10" of rain in the next week. The ground has reached saturation now, so there will be a lot of runoff. Meanwhile, west Texas is still not getting anything.

Impressive rotation on the approaching storm as it moves onshore.

Notice the trailing front stretches almost to the Hawaiian Islands so a definite pineapple connection this time.
So far from this storm 0.32” today with heavier rain on the way.

Wishing you the best. It’s terrifying having been a S Nevada resident to see the condition of reservoirs. January rain in Minnesnowta. Treacherous.

Looks like rain after-all.

After all the hype, I only got about 2.5" here and a bunch of wind. Places not far from here got over 4", so just a random variation in rainfall amounts. Still raining today and another strong-ish front coming Saturday. River flooding will be an issue next week if the rain continues.
