la Nina rears her ugly head

Only 0.10” overnight. Looks like the center of the low went due north and the AR broke down but the forecast still calling for up to an inch more today. Surrounding areas got more rain and wind than we did.
About 1/2 of the dry farmers planted and the wheat is coming up. They have been building housing developments instead of growing wheat for the past couple of years since the crop failed from the drought.

We got 1.49 inches in the last 24 hours. That is around 50% of what we get in a normal January around here.

We got another 0.26” since this am. Still showery at dusk.

3.4" overnight here. More on the way later tonight. This is what we need to refill the reservoirs. I'm at around 20" for the season so far.

Well, dag-nam-it.....If it doesn't all seem to be going north of me mostly.....wouldn't say we are dry exactly, but I was expecting more.

However it is good for the central valley farmers and will dump lots of snow in the Sierra Nevada's for the snow melt later. :p

Over an inch since last night. Thunder and lightning too, which is extremely rare around here. A couple of very intense downpours and some strong wind gusts.

News here showed people in boats in the flooded streets. Clamed the reservoir's are almost full.

Some of the reservoirs are near their historical averages, the rest are lower then the historical averages.

Lake Mead is still super low. Hoffa's skeleton might eventually show up.

The snow pack is very high though. When it melts out most of it will go to the reservoir's.

Some sad news is that 18 are now dead due to this storm system including a 5 year old boy.

The one after the next storm appears to be 5x the size with an atmospheric river stretching from the Philippines towards Alaska.

Zoom in/out to see the extent of it. The storms of ‘69 comes to mind.

Took advantage of a break in the rain to go riding. Mostly it was good conditions but there were a few washed out spots and plenty of places where water was running across the road. My bike has fat tires and just floats over that stuff. Funny to see where skinny tires sank into the mud deep enough to stop a bike. I have a detachable rear fender that helps, but I still get pretty muddy.

Another 2.1" overnight. Season total is around 27.2". This is about what I got all of last season, so things are looking good. The official drought map shows I'm only in a moderate zone now, instead of severe.

The weather people on TV said this is the rainiest 3 week stretch since 1859, which is close to when records were first kept.

They get so excited about the extreme weather. One reporter stated "A car came down on a tree". Wind has to be really blowing hard for that to happen.
