la Nina rears her ugly head

Even Amberwolf is getting some rain....
Yeah, we got pretty wet starting sometime before dawn, soaked in good enough that I had a bit of trouble getting SB Cruiser thru the yard's muddy non-grass areas to get to the gate to leave for work. Left some inch-deep tire tracks in the best parts, and sunk another inch+ in t he wrost parts, but even with the fairly smooth street tires (shinko sr714 2.5x16) on the mtoro wheels, it had *just* enough traction to keep crawling thru and pushing me forward without spinning out the wheels, being very careful with the throttle.

The streets were just wet, a few puddles, nothing liek the inches-deep flooding we get with summer storms, and unlike yesterday when it was dry but very very windy and all the drivers had had their brains blown out of their skulls by it*** there was only one complete moron on my route today.

Drizzled on and off all day long, think it's over now though, until tuesday when they predict another 1/2" or less.

*** you know that thing where you're on the road, and a driveway is a little ways further down the road, and a car sudeenly guns the engine screams past you and swerves across your path into that driveway so close you barely have time to brake (or maybe don't and have to swerve left around their back end as they pass in front of you?

Well, that happened FIVE TIMES on my way home from work yesterday.... Then while I waited in a driveway until traffic passed so I could cross a street, two different morons within half a minute of each other accelerated into the back of a temporary traffic jam (all cars completely stopped) with predictable results. :( Glad i was in the driveway, not the road.... If the road had been wet, or it had been rainy, or dark or whatever, I might understand, but everything was perfect weather, daylight, dry road, just windy--enough to push me around a bit, but not enoguh to do anything to vehicles the size of these two.

Today, when it *was* rainy, cloudy and gloomy daytime, wet roads, there werent' any of those things happening (when they usually would since rain seems to wash all sense out of drivers here), the only moron was a smallish black car that seemed to ahve been modified to have separate front and rear brake control that squealed past me as I waited on one back side street to get onto another, roaring their engine and rear wheels at high power, but braking at the front wheels and shimmying the back around then starting to fishtail. They only stopped that when they came really close to whacking some parked cars as they approached another car waiting to turn at the intersection, then they impatiently sat their gunning their engine until the ohter car finally got the chance to get onto the bigger street. As I approached they had already then screamed out inot the main street and were doing fishtailing donuts while other traffic was coming, and they lost control and almost hit cars parked there, before they screamed off down that street at what looked and sounded like full throttle. :( By the time I got onto that street they were long gone somewhere....

Going to get cold all right. Those clouds tell there own story. However it seems the way these days. For the last 4 or 5 springs around here we have been getting a brief warm period just long enough for the fruit trees to sprout flowers and then a strong cold snap comes in and kills the flowers so there is less fruit in the end. This year the warm air didn't last as long as in the past few years but I will see how it goes with the fruit trees this year.

Now they're talking about another end-of-the-world atmospheric river event. QPF maps look quite a bit less than the last one, so no extreme rain or flooding likely. The news always has to exaggerate things. Like last time, I appear to be in the Goldilocks zone where it won't be too much or too little. The hills will stay green a bit longer.

I had some frost last month, enough to kill about half the leaves on the guava tree. I'm surprised that thing is still alive after being totally frozen multiple times. The climate here just isn't quite tropical enough. I thought it would be interesting to try grafting the guava to an avocado tree so I could grow guavacados.

It is a tropical depression in millibars as of this writing. gale force winds 3-18-2025.png

Showing impressive rotation offshore. Hopefully it will stall so it doesn’t go too far south and miss half of the state.

So we got a whole 0.07 inches in the last 24 hours......:cautious::mad:

So far our half inch of rain and 100% chance today has been just a memory, with no rain falling on my head at all; at best it might be called partly cloudy for the late afternoon and evening. :(

The 90% chance of the other half inch doesn't look like it's even going to be a memory. A few minutes ago I smelled the smell of a rainy moment, but there was not even an increase in humidity, and I can still see stars between the clouds. :/

I don't believe the rest of the new version of the forecast either:

Adding another 0.25” for a storm total of 0.28”.
This seems like the year that the next storm will be bigger than the last one but for some reason it didn’t pan out.

About 1.6" since yesterday. Even had some thunder and really high wind gusts.
Still some showers around. More coming tomorrow.
This should really green up the hills for a while.

:sneaky: well, we did get .97 inches over night..... 😬

This afternoon we *finally* got some rain. My neighbor's station recorded 1.46 inches, whcih I believe given the rivers on the way home that used to be roads. The crown in the middle of the road, and a total of lane's worth on either side of that, was all I could see. Most places it was only a couple inches or so deep, but some places it was just not quite up to / over the sidewalks, as much as an inch or two below that. Was still raining on my way home, fading to drizzle and then sprinkles as I reached home.

JellybeanThePerfectlyNormalSchmoo was waiting for me at the gate as usual, bedraggled and soaked with probably 50 pounds of rainwater, but she still had a dry spot on her belly (guess she'd been standing instead of laying in the puddles).....

Never heard of this, oscillations in the North Atlantic akin to El Niño and La Niña.

Windy and cold tonight, followed by showers tomorrow.
