la Nina rears her ugly head

They were predicting less than 0.1" here for the weekend. A rogue cell moved over my location and dumped some very heavy rain for a while yesterday and we got 0.5". The local TV weather guy even pointed out the red spot on the radar that dumped on me. It was only a few miles wide.

Anyway, I'm hoping the rainy season is over.
Season total so far: 34.3"

1.52" today so far, in two storms, and a few tiny sprinkle sessions here and there. Could be more tonight.

Good news is it means the trees might live a tiny bit longer, bad news is it means I'll have to mow the grass again at least once before it dies.

71° to 101° in 4 days.... :oop:

"Oh geezz." Sorry.

Seems to be how this year is going to go, been doing that sort of wild variations the last several months; will likely get more chaotic as time goes on.

1.63" up to midnight, then 0.12" since then, at my house from the neighbor's station. Started getting kinda sunny an hour or two ago, but more rain is expected tonight (another half inch to inch).

If I could afford to water things (rent went up too much, and food and everything else already had, except pay that didn't go up at all this year, no raises for anyone apparently) I'd be grateful for the rain, but it just prolongs the agony of watching all the trees I've spent the last couple decades planting and caring for all die. :(

Then I have to cut down the remains and chop them up and put them in the trash as I can't even grind them up and spread them as ground covering cuz the city calls that yard waste and could fine thousands of dollars a day or give a jail sentence, or both.

Not showing up on the radar (NWS or ABC News) so quite a surprise. Not even mentioned as part of the forecast so a general communication breakdown probably due to Federal budget cuts.
As a result, that would reasonably explain
why Jaccuweather radar has been a bad order for several days.
Temperatures predicted to rise later this week up to the 90’s then drop back into the 60’s. They could be testing the armed services weather warfare capabilities. In any case we’re experiencing weird weather conditions and abnormal seasonal occurrences such as snow on the local mountains in May for example.
8:00 pm edit:
Every drop must have evaporated while dripping down the funnel as the gage is showing nothing measurable although it could be because of the usual two hour delay.

PSS: An additional 0.01” at around 10:00 brings the total to 0.56”. It’s still raining now down El Centro way but I think we’re done for now.

Additional 0.04” this morning from the drizzle. Persistent marine layer shows up in this satellite view:

I think the rain season is over here. There's a very slight chance for something next week. The grass is starting to turn brown already but it's really tall in a lot of places. Mostly 1-2 feet tall, but over 4 feet in the wetter spots. This is going to be a major fire hazard once it gets totally dried out.
They brought in a heard of goats to eat some of the grass where the open space meets the houses. I think they need more goats.

More goats, or less houses in fire prone areas. ...... Come to think of it, you just gave me an idea that others surly must have had but who's time has come. "The California Fire Goat Brigade." Herding 100 goats has to be cheaper then hiring 100 men to clear areas of land. Who needs to clear cut forest to prevent fires when herds of fire goats could be methodically worked in areas with heavy underbrush and other fire pron areas.

Should be 106F here by Sunday.

Was 98F today, 88F the day before, 77F the day before that, 73F the day before that.

Tomorrow and the next day should be 102F-103F.

Fun. :(

My friend at the National Weather Service San Diego office retired. Must have took the buyout during this Reduction In Force (RIF). Whoever we get to replace him had better step up and grab the bull by the horns because the china shop is getting pulverized by DOGE.

Yesterday it dropped to a peak of only 102F vs the previous day's 105F, but the average was still over a degree higher. Chart from the neighbor's station showing the past several days and the data from today so far at 10AM.

I tried, but Mars was a little thin in the air department and I couldn't get JellyBeanThePerfectlyNormalSchmoo to not eat her helmet. Ol' Jupe was too thick, and it's moons were a fair bit outside all the conditions I might need. Beyond there it was just too cold for me.

It actually rained a tiny bit here last night. The ground is wet, but that's about it. I don't think the grass is going to turn green again.

We had (San Antonio, TX) storms all around us that have now moved East. Not much rain here, ground is dry. Cool this morning 64 deg F. tomorrow 100F and wed supposed to get to 105F. Is something going on with the climate?
