LED BIKE Lights - Skyray S6 V Magicshine 808

Also would be interesting to see how well the LEDs are coupled to the heatsink/body, and how hard it would be to upgrade the LED drivers.

Yes, and I intend to find out. The fact that the body gets hot hopefully means that the thermal coupling is decent. Being a thermal engineer in my day job, I am planning on doing a thorough investigation and if needed, improve it to the point where it meets Cree's specification for the XML LED. I doubt it does now, which will have a dramatic effect on longevity of the LEDs.

For now, don't use the 2 LED mode!!

I got around an hour the other night on full 3 led mode. I did notice the battery pack was smaller than the ones I've received with magicshine 808's but the packs have the same connection so batteries are interchangeable. I received my headlight only from that rabbitworld seller sorbet are trustworthy as I never bought the second one through eBay I just sent PayPal payment, so now i might run two off theses at once :)

Any luck 2moto ?

I got my light today from huang and so far it's the largest light of this type I have had yet.

Seems to be very well made and heavy. like 2 of my magicshines pretty much.

Took a while from China , but I am glad it showed up finally.. will update when I finally get it
hooked up. based on the weight alone seems like it should sink the heat pretty good.

No, not yet. Too many project!!! Argh!

Might not get a chance until after Christmas but will post up what I find out. I am also curious about comparing the Skyray S6 against what seems to be a lower priced copy. It doesn't look quite as high quality, but it's more the internals that matter.

Cheaper copy:

I have successfully bought just lamps from eBay but messages the seller and asked for a price then asked him to send me an invoice through oaypal, a guy called rabbitworld88 or something similar proved reliable

Simply put the cheap copy looks cheap and probably is made with inferior parts

yea plenty of people will sell the 808 with just the head. I think it's like 8-14 volts in that range. I usually
just shoot for 12 myself and call it good.

I hooked up the skyray last night and shot it out into my back yard..

Damn this thing is bright.. and it's really a solid looking light.. nice and heavy seems like it should
help soak up a lot of the heat. I like how the button works also.. first push it's 1 led.. 2nd it's 2 3rd 3 4th push
it flashes 5th off.. at least that's what I remember.

Will probably get a 2nd so I can put them on both sides of my bike. Really like this light.

few of us have had good luck with this guy.. I even bought just the head w/o an ebay sale and he came thru for me just took a while on shipping from China.

Sorry to hear about the seller that always sux.

will this work to convert 48v to 9v with the light. thank you in advance. i also agree this is one heck of the light. turned it on and i was like wow. took it out to the road with the car shinned it down the street and it was brighter then my car lights and equal to the car lights on high beam. really nice light.

Not likely to work as it is only 1 watt / 111 mA and this light draws more power than that by a factor of 30 or more.

thank you! last few i have tried to order would not ship to the virgin island and they will. again thank you for the link

No problem, people seem to be quite happy with them.
I'm going to buy this dc/dc eventually once the ultimate led light comes out  ! Any day now!

Hi guys,

I have just hooked up a Skyray S6 to a 9V (supposedly 3000ma) wallwart psu and it runs great on low and middle setting.

At high setting the wallwart enters hiccup mode and the light goes out, which may mean the psu can't deliver 3amps at all, or may mean it just can't deliver 3amps when being supplied 45+ volts from my 12s lipo pack.

As others have stated there is very little brightness difference between the skyray's middle and high settings, so I am a happy bunny :)

An unexpected perk of the psu crapping out on high setting is that I don't have to cycle past strobe mode to switch the skyray off! :?

Why don't you try lowering PSU output voltage? Lamp should workd down to 6.0-6.5V no problem.

At 9V is won't draw 3 amps. It draws 16W with all three LEDs on, so at 9V it will draw less than 2 amps.

you can ad a long piece of thin wire or a resistor (big one, low ohms)... to adjust, wont cut out- if u get it right it will be almost as bright....

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the psu is fixed voltage, so I'd need to either order a very high power resistor I believe to drop the votlage in a 2amp system!

I have an ebay variable voltage dc to dc converters coming in the post from china in the next couple of weeks, so I think I'll give them a shot next....
