Newest chemistry avaiable.
Have a look at http://www.eigbattery.com/

48v 20ah 5C continuos discharge 6.5kg!!!!
Life time should be way over 1000 cycles.

But I dont think they ll be selling low amounts < 1000 units.

They also make lifepo cells rated 30C Peak 15C continuos but the weight is higher.

Regards

Hmm ?
seems to be another source of 20Ahr, 10C pouches ?

Yes, but seens they are not just another B grade A123 cells repacker. Looks like they make real LiFePo and LiCoMn cells.
I wont disclosure who gave me the lead to this manufacturer, but its a long term battery seller.

Have a look at the modules and the metalic boxed packs with coolers all including BMS, ready to use. LiCoMn has about the same size to capacity ratio as LiPo. But available in 20ah packages from 10 to 20s having a somehow decent 5c countinuos discharge rate.
Seens like a good options for RC LiPo users.

very very interesting...especially the complete packs with cooling fans...anyone in ES tried them?

I guess the real question should be.

Anyone on ES got a reply from them?

I tried several times, even pretending I would need a large amount and still no reply for eig.

Regards

I sent also 5 emails and still no reply...

I visited and toured the EIG factory in Korea.

Very typical for any large battery manufacturer based in Europe/America.
Not interested in selling to us eBike guys.
You want 1000 units? sorry, we still can't sell to you!
What if we provide the BMS in packs? sorry, still not interested. *Click*

Chinese companies? no problem. Eager to make any sale.

but still they can answer and just say 'NO SALE TO YOU'....it's not so kind not to answer...we don't buy for free...

Looks like a nice bike at a very good price. May I ask why you're selling?

In the description you write that no BMS is required. Are the EIG cells more resilient, or was that simply a design choice?

EIG Battery makes two different cells, one based on LiFePO4 chemistry, and the other based on LiNiCoMno2. I think these are the latter cells. They have a steeper discharge curve than lithium phosphate, with a less-pronounced knee in the curve. This makes it much easier to estimate the state of charge from the pack voltage. The cells used in the Bosch 36V litheon power tool packs have a similar chemistry. The Bosch packs don't have any individual cell monitoring, just a pack LVC. I've been using a couple of these packs on my ebike for over a year now without any BMS. As long as you don't push the average cell voltage close to the upper or lower limits these cells stay very closely balanced. The controller provides a low-voltage cutoff for the pack, and the charger sets the high voltage cutoff (around 4.1V). The drawback is a shorter cycle life, typically around 1000 full cycles to 80% of capacity, compared to 2000 or more for lithium phosphate. Personally I'm willing to accept the shorter life in return for eliminating the hassle of a BMS. It would be great to hear feedback from anyone who's used the EIG cells, or any information about sources/cost.

There's loads of information about the Bosch power tool packs on Endless Sphere. Just search for "Bosch fatpack".

Jeff bought that rolling chassis from us earlier this year. It is a great bike and those EIG cells are incredible. He made sure to setup the DeltaQ properly with the right programming and the retractable power cord coming out from beneath the taillight makes it easy to plug in anywhere.

I can attest to the performance of the EIG cells as I used them in my own bike. I used a BMS with them, but after months of daily riding, I never once was able to measure any variation in cell voltage. They were always within 0.01V of each other. Not trying to hijack Jeff's thread but I still have the 80 cells that were in my bike along with 80 other cells I haven't used if anyone is interested. I believe he still has around 40 more unsued cells as well. They were not brand new when I purchased them but they performed better than any new cell I have ever used. Spec sheet is here: http://www.eigbattery.com/eng/product/3.jpg

GM volt uses LG.

Made a great video with a 20Ah EIG pouch tonight.

First overcharged to 4.45v.
Then blasted across the cells terminals with a capacitive discharge spotwelder until it melted off a terminal. The cell just got mildly warm.

Then laid it on the floor of my shop, and tapped it with a hammer.
Wooooooosh! Fireball! Blasting flame into a wooden door and a pile of oily rags...

Between the smoke filling the shop, the rags burning, and kicking it outside on fire, I can hardly imagine how it could have been more fun.

The we smashed an overcharged 6s5Ah 30-40c Lipo pack, which seemed tame compared to the EIG. Lol

How'd you get a hold of EIG product Luke? Several of us have made email contact with them, only to never even receive a response. Is it a case of inside contacts or your battery rep status working for you ?

Bro, I visited EIG in Korea, and toured the place. The CEO's email addy is in my contacts list. I can get anything I want from any battery mfg. :p :p :p

I believe this water bottle mount style battery is this chemistry also, from BMSbattery.com.
They list it as Li-NiCoMn but I think they just dropped the O2. $200 does not sound bad for this.

I wouldn't just use the two frame water bottle cage mount holes if I was going to use one of these. At least not without additional reinforcement.

That battery looks good for the price, however the maximum discharge is listed as only 10 amps continuous??

what low power motor can you use it on to not shorten its life?

Good question. 10a continuous is specified and 20a max - so appx 1c continuous and 2c max.
Perhaps they intend it for use with one of their current limiting controllers. Their KU63 is over current 15a and I think they may have a 12a limiting too.

is this chemistry similar to LiMn2O4? According to some review online, this type of chemistry may not worth it:
- It's calendar life is very short and loose 14% of its capacity every year: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/10206-voltage-drop-lifepo4-v-limn2o4.html
- It will decay extremely fast over 50C: http://www.iloveebikes.com/batteries.html
- Sold by Conhismotor, 1 member only got 200 cycles of it: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23644&hilit=LiMn2O4&start=15
