I am looking at the tern vektron folders with the m400 motors and wondering if the m600 is the same size and would fit in that frame for a future swap

anybody have experience with both of these motors

A bit of poking around on google looking for the frames made for these series, it looks like frames that hold the M600 will also hold the M500, but they don't list taht they work wit the M400. The ones iwth the M400 don't list anything else, so most likely the M400 and M600 are different enough to be incompatible.

I didn't look at the Bafang site itself ot see if they have a drawing of each showing the mounting points/shape, but that would be the most certain way to find out.

Thanks , from the few pics i found they look a little different...

Looking at the evelo quest max and the tern vektron D7i
Trying to decide which one
The quest at least has a throttle but it stupidly sounds like it will not start working until 6mph, so why even have it...

Would like to build one with a bbs02 but to do it with an igh and belt drive is probably going to take months to figure out and i want a bike to ride now

Annoying when there is not what you want to buy available....

Probably limited like that to comply with some EU rule that doesn't take disabilities or infirmities into account (like most rules).

I specifically have to keep throttles on the trike so I can even get started from 0MPH, when using torque sensor control via the CAv3 (though stupidly oddly if I use cadence-only control I can get started up under many conditions without the throttle, even though the cadence sensor is part of the torque sensor. ). I'd be keeping the throttles anyway for other reasons (primarily backup in case PAS fails or my legs hurt too much to move),

There are some threads for that, some of which are found in this search

but Chalo (who does generally know about bicycle stuff ;) ) said this

Belt drives only work right when they have static tension on them. Internal gear hubs only work right when they don't have static tension on them. They can't be reconciled. Combining the two beats up one or both components.

Also, belts don't last significantly longer than chains (sometimes not nearly as long) and they're much more expensive to replace.

Though the first problem seems odd since there are a number of prebuilt pedal bikes that use belts on IGHs. I don't know what they did (if anything) to get around it.

In another thread that I forget which one it was, someone that built something like you want found that as long as there was a perfect beltline between front and rear it worked, but otherwise the belt had to be very highly tensioned.

This thread discusses various middrives and belt/igh

Pretty much nothing I want to do has commercially-made stuff that just does that; I have to modify or build stuff to do it, or combine several different things never meant to work together, etc. :/

Some things are *sooo* close, but unmodifiable to do what I'm after....

lots of good links here, thanks

I would love to build one with everything I want
20 inch folder with 2.4- 2.5 wide tires
front suspension
hydraulic brakes
igh and belt drive
500 watt mid drive and throttle
40lbs
lol

but it is never going to happen, would take months IF anyone could even get it to work..

going to have to settle for a tern bike or the evelo quest max or possibly a haibike radius tour, tour doesn't fold but really nice bike if I can get one for a good price

the quest max comes close but regular disc brakes, no front suspension and the throttle is stupid- I do wonder if the evelo with the m400 max motor can be reprogrammed or if maybe they changed that in the 2020's
also wondering if I can use an eggrider with it, will do more research on that
wrote them an email, hope to hear back soon

oh well
lol

Most folders I'm aware of are 30ish pounds with no electric power in the equation. A 40 pound target weight doesn't leave a lot of room for motor, controller, and battery.

It's a lot easier to get the bike weight under 20 pounds if you don't need it to fold. Then your numbers would look a lot more feasible. Not generous, but feasible.
