Hello .... This is my 3rd magic pie setup I have always had pretty good luck with them but this one has me stumped .. The motor fits between the forks perfectly not to tight and no room needing shimming ... Trouble is the whole thing is off center 1+3/4 from fork to motor on one side and 3/4 on the other side ..the wide side is the one with the controller .. I wouldn't care but it makes the front brake pads crazy and binding ..straight pull brakes new electra townie bike .. the dealer has not been able to figure it out ... I have fooled with the brake shimming the dragging pad away from the wheel but I am not sure why the motor is off center ... I also have a smart pie 500 watt that I used for a couple of years ant it too is off center .. I only use the rear brake on that one but the front also has the regen braking .... Any help would be deeply appreciated ...

Is the motor itself not centered?

Or is it just the rim/tire that is not centered?

If the motor itself is not centered, then it sounds like a rear motor being used in front. Maybe somehow it's a rear stator inside the covers for a front wheel?

If it's just the rim/tire not centered, then maybe someone laced it up with the spokes for a rear wheel, which will be much shorter on one side than the other, and thus on a front wheel would put the rim/tire well off to one side.

Thanks for your help ... The motor is not centered in the forks ...So it makes the wheel/tire not centered also ...I fooled with the front brake but it still drags a little sometimes ...just on one side the one that's closer to the fork ...

As long as you have a "spoked" wheel verses a "casted" one. The rim is centered in between the fork with a process called "dishing a wheel".
Which in effect shortens the spokes on one side, while lengthening the spokes on the other side. Pulling the rim to the center.
Many videos on YouTube can be found showing and demonstrating the process. It is not unusual for Pies to need dishing.

A one inch difference from one side to the other is very severe.
1+3/4 from fork to motor on one side and 3/4 on the other side
I haven't seen a front hubmotor with that much difference.

Rear motors, yes, because of the freewheel allowance on the drive side.

If the spokes are at the same angle on both sides, then you could get shorter spokes for the side that's farther away from the fork, and longer spokes for the side that's closer to the fork, basically relacing it as if it was a rear wheel, to force the rim closer to that side. I don't know if you can get half an inch of dish to fix the problem, without doing that, but you can try it, as Tommycat notes above.

If it's not a spoked wheel, but a cast wheel, the only way to fix the problem is to replace the axle in the motor, or to replace the whole stator/axle in the motor, or replace the whole motor, or the whole wheel.

Hello and thanks for trying to help me .. I don't think it is the spokes ..wheel is way to far off to be a spoke problem besides I just bought this would they send it to me this far off .. the wheel lines up with the motor it's just the way the motor is designed I think .. I will try to send a pic every time I click on the pic Icon I only get this
how does that work ?? Thanks again for any help or support .. I think this is a badly designed motor that's the problem .. It works I dont use the front brake as it drags but the rear brake causes the regen braking to brake the front wheel thru the motor ..wish I could post this pic ....

I had the same problem with pics, I got a free account at, imgur, google it. it was easy on the home page you can click the, upload picture for message boards, it uploads your pic at 512kb? once you've uploaded your pic to their site I just click on the picture. it pops up on its own screen and to the right theres a bunch of buttons you can click, one says, for message boards with a copy button. click it, go to es and the flashing bar in between [img] put the cursor there right click and paste/ then click preview and your picture will appear then submit.

any chance they sent you a fat tire motor laced to a normal rim is there a number/stamp you can check against their website
