Not all air horns are created equal! I learned this in a not so good way now that the weather is turned cooler, I had run out of compressed air on my marine horn and bought a party horn from Kmart since that is what was nearby at the time, and it worked fine, in the warmer weather.
Now I go out when it's 29F and fortunately I didn't need the horn for an emergency, but I was a little ticked at a guy who didn't move over but a few inches as he passed me!
So I slammed the air horn and what I heard sounded more like a squeak toy!
Now I got my marine horn out again, and not only is it considerably louder, the gas in it's canister isn't affected by the cold, just as loud as ever!
Here is the Marine horn I use, should be available at any sporting goods store:
