Sooo... I just got back from the third/last day of the "Toronto International Bicycle Show". Kinda unfortunate that only 13 Electric Riders said they might show up (I had suggested a "Meetup" -TM- for 12 noon today.) Out of an online membership approaching 1000, in a "GTA" city of over six million? And of that 13, only a handful that I could find (let the excuses begin!).
Anyway... I couldn't stay for the whole afternoon (as much as I might have liked to. Plenty of tasty bicycle stuff to lick at.) (Sorry, wanted to say above "to LOOK at".) Spent "half" the short day (my time there) just trying to find others (the 2-3 that I knew were there).
So I had a thought (Yeah, I know, "oh oh".)...
At some future bicycle "show" (and this show had maybe only had a handful of ebike sellers), I suggested to Lady V (owner of one booth/shop in Toronto) they might have balloons and a tank of helium gas ready. I had thought about using latex, but foil and plastic ("mylar") may offer "souvenirs" (In case there are any French folks reading this.)
Point being, balloon may come with strings attached. (Yah, you knew there was probably a catch.) But just one string (or length of ribbon), such that folks may attach one end of the string to their belt (any sailor might use a round turn and two half-hitches, but other knots may suffice). And length of string, etc. might be cut as a short piece or long. So left to its own devices, the balloon might fly quite high, and serve as a "promo device" for the one ebike seller. Plus maybe fellow ebiker ruffians can find/recognize each other (it's a "huge" bike show) easilier (other than in the beer tent, I mean).
Balloon might be any colour, but one side perhaps left bland (sorry, "blank") such that some ebikers might write naughty bits using a felt-tipped pen thingee. (Not in Engrish -sp?- language of course, but in ebikers secret code that only other ebikers would know - and chuckle about.)
Anyway... At the "show" today, booths were practically papered with signs and had hand-out paper etc printed info. None that I could find were using visitors themselves as a "promo device", watt lasts and lasts, long after the "show" is over.
PS... and lasts.
