isen glass. The stuff used on boats. A heavy clear plastic. Zippers and turnbucles are added. Anyway cut srtips a litte less wide than the clamp. Start with clear tape and wrap the isen glass to the desired thickness. It will protect the underlying finish and will not slip. I would not try to fill an excessivly big gap. Build it to much would probably be spongey.

Ebent good. But this posit is a bit cryptic. Shims for what? Clamping a light to the bars? Clamping on a battery hanger?

No intention to be cryptic. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. In the world of modifying our rides we clamp stuff on. No drilling frames! My new cycle analyst clamp was a little too big for the intended place. A shim was required. I heard about using isen glass. I wrapped one layer around the T bar. Not enough. Three layers of isen glass built up the T bar so that the clamp would bite. The isen glass allows incremental build up. No slippage. Compresses well. It will save the finish of the underlying surface in case you no longer need or want the clamp in place. A small piece of clear tape to start the wrapping is a help. I believe this is a good idea for anybody using clamps not only on our rides, but also anytime you need a shim. Exception, obviously not to use this type of shim in high temperatures.

Perhaps there are some who would only think of good clamps on boats. Others might want to drill their frames instead of using clamps. My guess is they are a small minority. Seems to me most on this form or forum know the best approach to enhance our rides.
