meerkat motor board

Posting once is fine, twice at a push, but the same dumb link three times is just spamming the forum.

As a new member I'd advise that you delete all the duplicate posts with links and stick to one topic section, as those of us who use the "view new posts" option get a bit pissed off at seeing the same link with no useful or informative content repeated time and time again.

gee wiz calm down just tryin to get the word out, unfamiliar with the sight

Myself and another cleaned up the multiple posts. Meerkat, as Captain Ramius said to Vasili "One ping Vasili, one ping only..."

We only post things once on this board. You will find that we are very helpful, but members don't take too well to the things that are common on other boards. I will tell you sincerely that Jeremy was and is trying to help you and the board. 'tudes don't go far here, as a heads up.

So please go deeper than your video. Post up some of the details. We all like to see new things from new members!

(moderator edit: Merged your second new thread of same title with your original thread. Please do not post duplicate threads for the same subject; reply to your original thread. )

Posting a link, with no description as to what it might be, no introduction as to who you are, no information as to whether you've built this thing or are just marketing it for some company is a bit like chucking leaflets through the door of a pub and expecting to be greeted with a smile and a beer. It's perhaps not the best way to introduce yourself to the forum.

Try a bit of an introduction so we know a bit about you and what you're doing, what country you're from etc, then maybe more folk will be interested, maybe even offer help if you need any.

A "please" would be nice.................

You can upload pictures here in two ways, either you host them on a site like Flickr and then post a photo link, using the img tags (just click on the "img" button and cut and paste the link to the host inside the tags) or you can upload images as attachments. There is a limit on image size for attachments, so it's a good idea to first edit the photo down to a suitable resolution - I find an 800 x 600 pixel jpg is usually OK. To upload an image as an attachment, use the "upload attachment" tab at the bottom of the post window and then browse to the location of your photos, select the right one and upload it. If you want it to appear in line in a post (say, in the middle of some text) then click on the place inline link and move the resulting tagged text to where you want it in your post.

Ok great, sorry to get off on the wrong foot by repeat posting. My name is Erik I live in alameda, a small island next to oakland in ca.usa.
I love my new scooter ,put so far 500+ miles on it,and i believe it is a unique ride due to its scale and a few other features. The easily removable battery pack system allows me to ride 24/7 as long as i dont get to far from my home base charging station. On longer trips i bring my charger and look for hot spots where i can recharge, (one side in thirty minutes), litium batteries are great for power, weight, quik recharge. Techy jargon i don't have. This was all put together for my by my guy Tyson at "vessile vehicles".We came up with the frame, power source, with it being a colaberation of my vision/cash,and his skill and knowledge.I had one "bmc geared motor" blow a bearing and the warranty replacement took a while but i am back on the road with the amps dialed down from 40 to 25,rides good less pep but its plenty for the flat area where i live and mileage went way up. Also the bmc is amazing for coasting (no regenerative breaking)and allows for that silent floating feeling i was hoping for when off the accelerator.
My pet project now is to get local businesses to have power/recharging station much the same way they often offer wifi as a customer service.
this seems long winded so i will stop here

Welcome Erik, nice project and even better that it seems you guys over there can ride these things at least semi-legally (here we'd get pulled in an instant riding one on any road!).

Hello Eric, your ride looks similar to the "Zumaround". What are the volts you are using (24V, 36V, 48V?), and what is your top-speed. Which model of BMC do you have?

What made you choose a stand-up scooter over a bicycle? As an older man, many of my friends have difficulty putting weight on their wrists, and also don't like conventional seats. This has led to many older gentlemen embracing the recumbent. But, I can see the stand-up style being desirable to some. Whats the biggest benefit to you?

ok well my understanding is i qualify as a scooter and top legal speed is 25mph.it is ok in the bike lane and any where a bike can go . No dmv or liscence required ,i had one guy yell at me for using a "bike bridge" "no motorized vehicles!" only the speed limit for cars was 35mph and i can't do that soooo, i guess they want me to walk? seems odd. And one police tell me to get back in the bike lane when i was using the full lane at 25mph..?

No seat is FANTASTIC my visibility is great ,people can see me more easily, also i feel much safer, i never feel like i am going over the bars head first, disk brakes stop on a dime ,the weight is low so even slamming on the front brake feels safe except in a turn of course.

The only part of a bike that cause discomfort is the seat, no seat no pain in the ass,pun intended.

the most balance is required at lower speeds, kind of like doing a "track stand" on a bike, once you get it, it's fun, takes some practice.

Why on earth would this be illegal anywhere? big oil conspiracy ?? car company clout?

California has some nice pages now on rules for various kinds of motorized bikes and scooters:

http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/motors.html

Here is the scooter part:

Motorized scooter

Driver must be at least 16 years old.
Effective 1/1/2005, a Class C driver's license or driver's permit is required.
... (muffler stuff removed)
Speed limit is 15 mph.
Driver must wear a bicycle helmet
Operation permitted on a bicycle path, trail or bikeway, unless there is a local ordinance prohibiting it.
On the roadway with a posted speed limit of greater than 25 mph, driver must operate in Class II bicycle lane.
On roads with a posted speed limit of 25 mph or less, riding in a bicycle lane is not required.
Operator shall ride as close to the right curb as possible, except to pass or turn left

So it doesn't mention power, just 15 mph speed limit, license, and helmet. And 25+ mph roads that don't have a bicycle lane are off limits, apparently. So the rules are different than for ebikes:

Section 406(b) VC refers to a motorized bicycle as a device that has fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power and has an electric motor that:

Has a power output of not more than 1,000 watts;
Is incapable of propelling the device at a speed of more than 20 miles per hour on level ground; and
Is incapable of further increasing the speed of the device when human power is used to propel the motorized bicycle faster than 20 miles per hour.

Notice this section says electric motor, so apparently the gas motored bicycles are forced into the moped class:

Section 406(a) VC refers to a moped or motorized bicycle as any two or three wheeled device having fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power, or having no pedals if powered solely by electrical energy, has an automatic transmission, and a motor which produces less than 2 gross brake horespower and is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level ground.

And yes, that typo is in the CA DMV page (horsepower is the correct spelling). So perhaps DMV's paraphrasing is less than perfect in other ways. :)

So the bike rules don't say anything about being forced into bike lanes on streets over 25 MPH.

Interesting.

IMG_0263.jpgMeerkat for moving forward...?
I have over 1200 miles on my prototype and wonder about where to put my energy and limited resources going forward.
My goal is to be successful enough that sales will fund future design ideas , modifications and allow for experimentation with different components.
I need some guidance maybe even a mentor.
What are the most important next steps, in what order?
Patents,investors,marketing,liability obligation,product refinement?
Any thoughts? Any one?

back in blue
After trying BMC,Mac,....pop bang crackle
Now running crystalyte 3540! fantastic!! Smoother take offs', re gen braking,I never notice the extra weight and I think my whpm improved !

The island town of Alameda Ca is great for e type transportation,I often take thirty mile + trips around town and over to oakland.
