I'm very new to the hobby, and am clueless. What should I be looking for as a mid motor for a moto build?

I am going to try a three speed gear box. Normal, eco, and race. I don't need top tier, but I was thinking around 5kw, 72v, 5k rpm. I have no idea if these are even real numbers together.

My goal is to increase range, or top end, on demand.

End goal is mid motor, 3spd gearbox, forkless build.

Any input is appreciated!

Generally it’s better to spend the gearbox cash and space on a larger motor and battery due to the high torque and wide efficiency range of electric motors.
There are numbers and simulations to back that up if you’re a fact driven guy. If you want to have a gearbox anyway, for fun or for interest then by all means do it. Haven’t seen a geared build here in a long time so it’ll be interesting!

What do you mean by forkless? All two wheelers have forks, suspension or rigid.

With so little information about your proposed build and usage scenario, I recommend first looking thru the other builds I've replied to here in this subforum; the information and advice and questions in those threads should help you gather all the information you already have, and locate information you will need, in order to find out generally what you need in order to do the work you need the system to do for you. There is rather a lot of stuff to consider. ;)

What gearbox are you going to use? One that came with the bike you're converting? Or building one from scratch? Etc?

Sounds like an extremely custom-built frame. Would you post some pictures? I've never seen a forkless bike before.
