More mid drives should have a back pedal support version

This for coaster brake or backpedal regen (on bikes that also have a direct drive rear hub).

Currently the only mid drives that support this feature are the Bosch Active Line Plus and the Tongsheng TSDZ2 coaster brake version.

Would be particularly nice if the Shimano and Bafang mid drives also had a version with back pedal support.

Backpedal Regen just needs a bidirectional cadence sensor whereas a coaster brake setup requires a completely different setup of clutches. Basically all the mids have cadence sensors already, it's just a question of what kind of sensor it is. The photon has a backpedal to turn off the motor feature, so in theory that signal could be used to drive regen on a second controller. Would need custom firmware. However dual motor setups are incredibly niche and so I just can't see the demand being there for anybody to ever setup this up.

Coaster brakes are less niche than a mid/hub hybrid but still pretty niche for ebike conversions. It's cool that there's an option available but I'm not at all surprised that nobody else has bothered considering the extra cost it would involve.

Capturing regen on downhills does work on braking for dd hubmotors, though more for slowing down as opposed to adding to battery capacity. It would be nice to be able to feather the amount of regen. Something I don't have, but maybe with it it would be possible to capture some juice on the level for use on the uphill in order to average out the human input.
I think a capacitor to capture regen and feed it back to the motor as needed, or to send a controlled charge back to the battery would be a really good thing in an ebike.
