For any winding, the smaller the wheel the better, if it suits your target speed. For me, that is a 3T winding, 17" Moto rim with a 21.5" O.D. tire and 120+ phase amps. With a 20S battery, my target speed is 50 MPH. If I can't get 50 MPH with 20S, I have a 4115 controller that can take 150V max. :twisted:
 
I started this 80 Day Race Open Source Design thread and am considering it, as part of a design & build team. Too old to actually be a driver on the race itself. Like NASCAR, opportunity for some branding for those contributing know-how, parts & tools.

So what about a MXUS 3000 motor as part of a build? I'm thinking that all things considered - the rules - a high tech tandem bicycle with front & rear motors would work great. With lots of battery - enough to cover 320 miles, with hard pedalling. That's the average daily mileage to cover the route in eighty days. The secret formulae of success will be in being light weight and fast solar charging of the entire battery. Rules allow for 8-hour rest periods that don't count towards race time. So that would be enough I think, if taken 8 am to 4 pm, in the country, to maximize solar charging. And riding hard 4 pm to 8 am. :mrgreen:

What is the battery amps of that controller?

The MXUS 45mm motor is rated for 6Kw Peak. Even at just 48V, 350 Phase amps is 16.8Kw.
You may want to beef up those phase wires a bit. :wink:

90A is still safe right?
90 Phase Amps should be fine, as long as you are not running it WOT for extended periods.

yes it works like a step down converter and 350A Phase must not be 16.8kW at 48V. If it would be battery current, than yes^^
however, the motor will anyway see these 350A for less than a second or two (drops quick) because of battery current limit which kicks in. acceleration at take off will be harder, but the price is lots of heat generated in the motor. decide your own if its worth it.
 
About to lace up my motor, is EVERYONE dishing their wheels? Seems like a major learning curve to dish the wheel.
I got a regular 19" mountain bike, Specialized Rockhopper.
 
the spoke flange is not centered to the axle flanges (its some mm near brake rotor side). this makes it possible to install wider cassette.

You can take the approach of Paul at EM3ev - I've got one of his laced MACs. Which is to lace the spokes with the head all pointing in the same direction. What I'll be doing when I get around to it.
 
Phase resistance for the MXUS XF40-45H V2 (Al Stator) 21X3T Winding (Stock Phase Wires):
0.216V Voltage drop with 3.04A current.
.216/3.04=0.071 Ohms Resistance.

At 120A Phase Current, that will generate (120^2x.071) = 1022 Watts of Loss

KV tested at 565.7 RPM at 48.1V, so 11.76 KV.
2.0A current at No Load.

That's right inline with the Fast Wind Crown...

i got a mxus in a 26 inch wheel from the factory.
but i hit a curbe hard and now my rim is a bit f##ked up. :cry:
i was thinking of going to 19 ich motor wheel but does any one know how to do this?
or has anyone already done it?
then i would like to know the length of the spokes

You have to get the rim first (Make sure it's 36 hole), measure ERD (Efective Rim Diameter) and then measure the motor, decide what thickness spokes you want and then use spoke calculator.
And use different calculators, to be sure to get the right length.
Then find a bike shop or internet seller to make you custom length spokes.
Once you have the spokes, just put them in and lace the wheel.
I know, it sounds scary, but it's actualy quite easy :wink:

Just search around the forum and web a little, there's a ton of material about lacing.

OK, gents. Here's the low-down.

Justin says that he can get by with just one motor of each winding for testing.

I will cover the cost of 16X4T Winding.

I set up a gofundme page for three additional windings, which would be the 21X3T, 12X5T and the 10X6T windings. I am hoping to raise $750 total ($250 per motor)

If you want to see the MXUS XF40-45H motors added to the Simulator, please make a small donation. I only need 30 people to donate $25 and we are good.
