I had recently the following problem with my Charly Scooter.

#When switching it on the motor did not turn
#The display indicating the state of charge showed a strange pattern
#Lights and Horn are working fine

After ripping the thing apart and dive into investigation i found out that the 5V supply for display is missing (red and brown wire at the electronic box (can be seen in MZ Charly1.jpg orange box)).
In my case the transistor (in yellow box of picture MZ Charly1.jpg) died due to thermal overload. This transistor builds a linear regulator for supplying the electronic box with 5V, but is likely to die in the event of a short circuit.
Diconnecting the 5V wires everthing is fine (no thermal overload and 5V are on)
In my case the shift register of the display PCB (in blue box of picture MZ Charly2.jpg) died due to water spill, creating a short circuit.
Replacing the shift register (74hc595) did the trick and everything worked.

In my case a electronic box replacement would have been no solution, as the new box would have been broken in no time due to short circuit condition.

Hope this will help.
Cheers Peter
