New Bafang Crank-Drives

May not be relevant but have you tried it with the chain off or in different gears? Due to chainline issues i get a noise when i'm in 1/2/3 but its pretty much gone and only the faint motor hum by the time i.m in 4/5 gear.

Yes I have, in my first Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPSAh9qHG3E
It's the same... :(

I'm in contact with Steven, at first he wanted to give me some discount on the nylon gear (which I suspect), I have told him that it is his turn to help me out on this, as it is a new unit. He seems to be willing to help. I will disassemble the motor tonight, and see if I can isolate the problem. I have also opened a case on paypal - hope it all goes well.

I have found the issue of my motor noise. It is, as I suspected they nylon gear.

I have asked Steven from elifebike for a replacement, Let's see how it goes.

Possibly a little OT, but i think i would really like one of these trikes, with a Bafang on it for Xmas in 2015. :)

Unless I missed it, could you post the build date of your motor? It may be of some help determining if this is a new or old problem in manufacturing.

Thats right.
Maybe you read it wrong?
Mines 140808++++ and I got it in September 14.

I thought of that, but seemed to new for me!?

Is that YYMMDDxxxx ?

That's discouraging...

I have mailed back and forth with Elifebike

First, he offered me a 10$ Discount on the gear - I disagreed, told him, that I want it for free.
Second, he offered me a free Gear, I pay shipping - I disagreed, told him, that it was clearly his fault, and that I have a lot of work because he didn't do the most basic testing.
Third, he asked me, if he can send it with my next order - Told him, that I need it ASAP, he didn't reply since then.

I will now escalate my Paypal case, hoping for a partial refund, so I can order the gear in germany (costs a fortune, but less then any fast international shipping option).

I'll keep you posted. Obviously, I regret that I haven't ordered from em3ev, but the price difference seemed high to me. Steven's communication isn't that bad, but it seems that he doesn't understand what troubles he causes to his customers, just because he does no testing at all.

Cheers,

Hmmm! What testing should he do? He's a just a reseller. The motor is fully tested and quality assured by Bafang. Wouldn't the motor have the same fault wherever you bought it from?

At least with Paul there would have been a response that satisfied the customer, possibly in the first response. Multiple emails to have the privilege of paying for any amount on a failed part is unacceptable. Bullshirt at best. Several resellers at least do a basic run up before shipping. That would seem to make the most basic business sense. The guy is obviously gutted by the poor support. No reason to bust his chops.Disappointed and with good reason, regardless of who you or I think are responsible.

If it was fully tested and quality assured by Bafang, how on earth did the wobbling gear get into the housing?
Some very basic testing (the first thing I did when I received it):
Hook it up to a battery, use the throttle to let it run.

If I would have sold it, it wouldn't have happened. Don't forget that shipping costs make a big part of the price, that alone makes it very important that it all works out initially. What If I wouldn't be able to fix it myself? That would mean sending it back (We're talking ~80$, and another one to me...).

In fact I do resell headlamps in Switzerland (www.hirnbirn.ch) and I test every lamp before sending it. Even if they all have a Chinese QC sticker on them. Most of them are good, but with one model, I've had 3 defective units out of 30.

Actually ut's not[CRYING FACE]. I've got it from elifebike.

I will count whem I'm in my workshop again. I rode it for 25km today, it does not sound that bad under load, but there were some "bang's" where I'm nit sure if they really came from the derailleur - so could be the freewheel in the nylon gear I guess.

You bought it from elifebike.com? Do you get it with new keys like mounted on bike or like on second ?

what is that thing in the circle? thanks

Buttons for pedal assist levels. And an on/off button. Some versions of the kits have different button layouts (mine is slimmer looking), but essentially they are the same bells and whistles.

any you off road riders fave your magnet slide out of position?

I got the er21, was surprised you can still ride the bike with the display like that, everything works just don't the battery level...

Kind of good to discover if anyone knows of a way to do away with the display would be even better. Will see if the display stays on with keeping the magnet infront of the sensor just reading zero all the time....

I've had error 21 since about after I installed the kit. Thought I'd fix it this winter, but can't bring myself to wrench in the cold garage this year. The only issues are no speedometer - I use strava - but I would like real time stats. Second is you can't change assist levels without turning the unit off or on. This I would like to do sometimes depending on how much I want to sweat. If I start out on high assist and try and go for a lazy ride, I usually end up with my own energy that needs to be burned off and vice versa. Lastly, the battery level, which has stunk a few times when I thought I had more gas left in the tank and end up having to pedal myself home when I'm spent.
This post might just give me enough incentive to fix it!

I don't use anything but throttle - and a cell alarm would be better on lipo is enough for bats. I use a CAv3 for stats...

Can you get a response from Lectric cycles? Another person in the group buy, the third report in as many weeks, has advised he can't get a response to getting a replacement controller now that EM3ev will no longer sell controllers to customers who bought their drives elsewhere.
My multiple requests over the last few months remain unanswered. Anyone know what's up?

Bozi,
Can't see a cell meter as well when riding. I get your points though. I like to change the assist and such. Probably should just take a few breathers on the ride. I don't want to stop like I do on my regular pedal bike.

You dont need to see the cell meter/alarms, they have a very loud piezo alarm that goes off when the preset voltage is reached by any cell.
I ride with mine tucked in the battery bag.

....just wondered how you work these, do you have to plug them in and out every trip, or have you got some more 'automated' method?

I have my 36v pack made up of 2x 6s in parallel and 2x 4s in parallel including there balance plugs with an extention lead to use for charging and the alarms.
So I just plug the 2x cell alarms into the 2 balance leads before I ride, it is also a good chance to check the balance as the alarms toggle though each cell when connected.
This is the lead I use http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__27080__JST_XH_Parallel_Balance_Lead_6S_250mm_2xJST_XH_.html
