New enthusiast with some questions on getting a first bike.

Ok. Thank you guys for your patience with me. I finally got it, it sunk in. Here's what I got, yellow blocks represent connectors for separating the packs for charging...

The alternative would be to solder them with now connectors and figure out a way to run a connector from the stock chargers to the batteries. Laz has something like that earlier in this thread, but I'm not certain I'd be able to do that with as many issues as I'm having in understanding the very basics. :(

Thank you again all. I will probably put the batteries together tomorrow like I have pictured, unless I decide to try and tear my chargers apart and figure out a way to run a harness or something.
 
Here. You look like you're struggling a bit. Here's something for you to look at. Hope it's simpler. Grab it and save it first. Or remake a cleaner copy since i had to erase your stuff which makes it sloppy. I'm going to delete the attachment soon so the forum is not filled with messy images. Can you see how by paralleling them first and then in series, if one pack die and the other 2 group of 2 are unaffected? And the result is that the left over pack that was parallel with the failed one will take up the slack of what used to be 2 cell in parallel?

In the other configuration of having 3 in series first. and then paralleling them. If one of those pack in the 3 pack in series would die the whole 3 series string will die. and you're left with only 3 series pack.
 
Well, I'm getting retina burn from looking at these crappy images, but I see no advantage to this last suggestion - when compared to the line drawing or TD's pic.. I also think the line drawing is easier to follow. If we aren't careful, the batteries will get hooked up wrong and he will have a problem.
 
This is what I've got. Not sure if I want to use Andersons to connect them in Series though. Anyone have any suggestions for locking connectors?

They make locking clips for Andersons. Might be at Powerx.

The reason we use Andersons is primariy because of their low resistance, so that they can carry a lot of current. You'll have to be careful that any connector you use can carry 20-30a.
 
SUCCESS!!! After an all day excursion of salvaging my wiring from my last pack setup, I finally got the new pack setup put back together. Here's what I ended up with....

In the bag, they fit perfect, no more straining, no more broken connections...

And finally, my CA is displaying the right Amps, instead of the 3.xx it was displaying last setup....

I plan on testing it all out tomorrow if it isn't snowing here. lol. Yeah, today, it hailed, snowed, rain, snowed, and then rained some more. Nice.

So the next thing I need to do is get some fenders, and take my bike in to the local Bike Shop and have it tuned up, because I know absolutely nothing about tuning a bicycle.

I will let you know how my test ride goes tomorrow. If it's cold, it will be a short ride. lol.
 
I figure in a couple weeks you'll decide you want more battery capacity. I mean, it can go 40mph, but it can't go that fast for too long with 500wh. :mrgreen:
 
lol. Only problem is, I don't have anymore money for more batteries, and probably won't for awhile. I do accept donations though. lol.
 
Well, I had fun building this Ebike, and I want to thank everyone on here for their help in building it. I couldn't have done it without the help. But now, the prospect of losing my house and livlihood is forcing me to sacrifice some things, and I'm selling my bike.
If anyone is interested in buying it, PM me.

I will tell you that I had alot of fun building this bike, and that it is a great ride. It's not especially useful for me, as I live in rural america, so I have long commutes. It's more recreational for me to have this. Regardless, I need to sell it to recover my costs. So if anyone is interested, or knows anyone interested in getting a quick fix E-bike, send them my way.
