Please forgive the stupid question. I was wondering what size of nordlock washer to get for HS Axle. They appear to come in an enlarged outer diameter version as well as standard. What would be ideal inner size. If i get the enlarged outer diameter would that only help if I use a flanged nut with it? I don't want to buy the wrong size as these little guys are pricey.

Thanks

i use nordlocks all the time at work and at any real torque i find them to be pretty much useless after about 2-3 uses
but if you want to use em that's your thing

the only way to know for sure what size you would need is to make a axil measurement

yes the oversized out diameter nordlock would work better with a flanged nut as it would more evenly spread the load over the nordlock washer itself

i do realise tho that if you torque it up tight with a nordlok that you may have a problem getting the nut loose by hand on the side of the road (changing a flat) that's why i decided against it myself(that and the cost.. I'm a little cheap)

The cost of a nut getting loose and spinning axle, cutting wires, blowing controller, possibly crashing is so high that it seems worthwhile to me.

I have not noticed degradation after a few uses but I have not been using them long. The correct application requires them to be harder than either the surface or the nut, so they should hold up well, especially since we don't torque them all that tight. We just don't them working loose.

I have the same question about sizing for 12mm HT3525. I have a few for the 14mm axles, is there a better fit for 12mm? Wide sounds good, the others I have are not as wide as the flange nut.

The rear threaded axle width of the HS, HT is 14mm - same as other hub motors (Xlyte X5, 9c, etc.) The Nord-locks are available under the "For sale new" topics.

Lubrication is a must, especially for ebikes where the wheel hub motor sometimes needs servicing.

Info from Nord-Lock website -
Lubricating bolted joints contributes to the durability and safety of an application. It is especially beneficial for applications with large and / or stainless steel bolts. NORD-LOCK bolt securing system provide a safe locking in both dry and lubricated conditions.
Benefits of lubrication:
- Facilitates assembly
- Minimized deviation in achieved clamp load
- Use the bolt's full capacity(minimizing twisting of the bolt)
- Improved reusability
- Extra protection in corrosive environments
- Facilitates dismantling and increases lifetime performance

My understanding is that the HT/HS threads are 12mm.
