Hi everyone.
I have an almost finished RMZ250 with ND96680. I want to install brakes, but I don't know what I actually need :) What are your experiences with tenen and braking with recuperation and other methods? I still don't really know what the difference is between low and hight brake. Does hight brake trigger recuperation straight away? Or do you use the gas handle recuperation in the field?
I will be riding mostly cross and light trials :)

If recuperation means regen(erative) braking, then low brake is a wire that is grounded to activate braking mode, and high brake is a wire that is fed 12v (or more, depending on the controller) to activate braking mode.

What happens after that depends on the controller design, and settings chosen by the factory and/or you.

Some controllers have two analog inputs, one for throttle and one for brake, so you can install a variable-regen brake lever (or foot control) to modulate braking amount once braking is activated.

Some only have one analog input, so the throttle has to be used to moudlate braking amount once activated.

Some have the option for either.

You'll need to check your controller's manual (if it has one, and if it's useful; many are very poorly translated if in english, and very difficult to translate if in chinese, because they're often not written using the proper terminology, and instead use simplistic phrases that don't mean the right thing in english to convey the actual meaning).

If your controller has no variable braking, but only on/off regen (common on cheap controllers, unusual for FOC types), then it is not likely to be useful on a motorcycle-class bike, especially in offroad conditions--it would be equivalent to having a medchanical brake that does nothing at all until you squeeze it all the way and then it is suddenly all the way on locking up the wheel. :/

Thanks. I was thinking more about how to use it properly in the field? Does the recuperation only work with the throttle closed or, for example, if I brake with the front brake. And another question :) Is it necessary to switch on the hight early for recuperation, i.e. use 12V+?

For all those questions, you'll need to look at the manual for your controller, and check what settings you've programmed into it, and how you have wired it up to your controls.

From what I remember you are only able to have regen on throttle release or when you activare a (digital) input on the controller with fardriver. So you cant regulate, it is just a fixed value you set. Nothing that you can use instead of mechanical brakes.
Hi or low usually means that they are activated high (connected to positive, like a brake light) or activated low (like a switch to ground)

Thanks thanks. I'll have to try it. I'm still tweaking the settings. I see that there's quite a lot to adjust. Does anyone have a screen shot of the settings for the fardrive 96xxx with the QS138 engine? Settings for dirtbike. I have a RMZ with qs138 70h + 24s li-on + nd96680 built.
