Ok, I got the frame style, now just to build it!

Crossed with this:

I'm thinking there is plenty of room in the "V" between the head-tube and seat tube for a whole lotta Lipo!

I just realized that my metal fabricator next-door neighbor has a nice assortment of welders!! TIG all the way!

Good-by old steel bike frames, hello new custom trellis frame!

Somebody mind "chopping" a nice battery pack into that second pic please? :D

You know, what I am seeing is sort of a "super motard" type E-bike. On with both street and off-road components. 8)

Planning on riding off the roof into the driveway? Serious frames though, prolly what we should all have for 40 mph +.

The idea of two tubes about 4" apart in the frame is a good one. Same thing as the EV Global bikes, making battery mounting much easier.

I am sure I saw some links to that Millyard bike here a while back but I can't find the links.

I saved a few things related too it. Sorry if this is pure plagiarism of someone elses post, without giving due credit.

A truly inspired designed.

Stumbled across this bike recently designed by a bloke from the UK called Steve Millyard.

Designed for down hill racing, but I love the use of a Nexus-8 as a gear box rather than a hub, single swing arm pivot around the cranks, all the running gear is enclosed, rear wheel has some weird double axle thing that allows you to pop off the wheel, but leave the brakes, and gear train behind. Very neat design. He also has some trick nitrogen filled shock.

Here are a few links if you want to read more:

OMG i didn't realise it was single swing arm and had the nexus hub as gearbox, thats just sick! Damn that would make the ultimate off the shelf platform for RC motored e-bike...

EDIT: needs one small alteration IMO...the seat tube angle should be slanted back to match the head tube angle...purely atheistic thing other than that tiz perfect IMO

Perfect :)

Here is another trellis framed bike, wish I had a better view of the whole thing!

Just realised there are two different versions of the Millyard frame here. The first looks the better, though difficult to weld. Half inch or 5/8" tube is also going to be difficult to weld. I reckon 3/4" or 20mm would be a good compromise though still challenging.

Ok! I think I have the design I like now! Thank you AJ!!! I did my best to draw-up my E-Bike version of the frame you chopped for us! :D :D :D

That's better, but not perfect AJ. The near-upright diagonal braces need to be perfectly vertical as well :)

Better?

Welllllllllllll.... if you put a Lipo pack in the middle, then yes! Perfect!

Yeah that'd be a kick ass frame for lipo - if the top bar went to the outside instead of inside you could slot an 18S2P or 12S3P pack in there nicely. Swap the gearbox for a colossos motor and LOOK OUT!

Added a couple of Astro 3220 RC motors too

Now you just be keeping your eyez and ideas away from that superb bit of machinery, we don't want it "gheyed" up with pink paint and a frock motor
thats screaming for dual astros. (Hyena in pink; hyena dress; hyena frock; hyena cross dressing; cross dressing hyena e-bikes<--for google botz)  :p

You edited that in!!!! wasn't there when i quoted your original message HiGHSiDE then went to Photochop the pic... besides my frock loving friend a colosus motor wouldndnt go even close to fitting in there anywayz have a look at the size of them, theres one mounted in a VW buggy now they are HUGE i ain't getting one i'm saving for Matts 12kw astro...

Yep! and you know, if one was just trying to look "legal" you don't need the pedals doing anything at all.

Make sorta the "poor man's" version with space inside the trellis frame for all your goodies, and with the pack on top, I think it looks really nice sort of a "trials bike" look, and you could always have a larger pack that was a bit higher if you wanted to swap in a larger one for range.

I'm going to try and use as little as possible and design it simply as possible. I might take a while getting my welding chops up, I've only stick welded, and I'm years outta practice, but I have probably 5-6 old bike frames that I would be getting rid of otherwise, so won't matter even if I screw them up.

I'll practice on scrap at first and see about building a jig, but it's gonna be mostly of wood since that is what I have available.

I don't think I would be using as large of tube either if I can help it, after all not really planning on DH'n the bike, just mild off-road with the main purpose commuting.

I just think a trellis frame looks so much better than a solid monocoque frame, even though that might indeed be better for weight. I bet one could punch out triangles in a mono and then it might not look so boxy, it's really aesthetics, but hey, why not.

"Cross dressing Hyena" already shows up in Google results.

hehehe gotta love the efficiency of the Google Botz.. Hyena pmed me with a Google link weeks ago, he had typed in Hyena frock and there was one of the photochopped pics i did of hyena in the first line of images on Google freakin laaaughed i did, was only the day before he said it will happen if i keep it up...I need to add it toomy sig with over 4000 posts the bot will find it so much easier

Bugger, I wasn't sure of the scale of them, I thought they may fit between the pedals in place of a bottom bracket :(

Have I told you to die in a fire lately ? :p

Yes the colosussus i big mate, after thinking it through really too big for a bicycle application
IMHO no doubt we will see some bolt them on anyway they can to set some speed records
they are welcome too it, too dangerous on bicycle components for me. I'll be sourcing some
moped or small motorcycle rims/hubs forks and making a custom frame to suit before putting
this much power on a bike, someones going to get very seriously hurt with all this power strapped
on inadequate built setups IMO...
