I bought what appears to be a very old currie bike. It's a Fuji Captiva with a very old motor that I have no idea what wattage it runs at. Labeled with part no 11700-1 by mac bmc. At first I thought when I saw it that it was a kit put on the bike but it was definitely manufactured together with the bike as it has wire guides welded into the bike. The prior owner claimed it was a prototype when currie first started but you know how craigslist is. People will tell ya anything to get a sale. I am curious if anyone knows anything about this bike and motor and what options I might have to give it some range. I bought it for my 16 year old daughter to get back and forth to school on but it looks like it might be under her range as today she was finding it cutting in and out when she applied throttle.

What batteries does it have?

How old are they?

More range needs more and/or newer batteries, or fixing any defects in the ones you have.

Batteries are 2 brand new duracell ultra 12V 10Ah AGM Battery

then replace the lead with lithium, same voltage and ah 24v/10ah, and you'll probably double the range right there.

can also add paralleled second pair of the same you already have, but it gets heavy quick that way at around 7-8lbs each.

the whole 24v/10ah lithium pack (like bottle battery maybe) would probably weigh less than just one of the sla agms does.

Might have been a prototype, but not the very earliest type. Those had an even cruder motor and chain mounted to a big steel plate.

Nice find though, but it needs lithium to have really long range. The new batteries could be too cheap, and the wrong type for EV use, so a better sla could help.

How far does she need? 15 mph takes around 20 watt hours per mile for many, and lead doesn't like discharging all of its AH. So I would guess she has at most 8 miles range now. If less now, it's definitely not a good battery.

That seems to be about right, I want to get her in the 15-20 range. Is it cheaper to run 2 12v lithium batteries or should i go with just 1 24v? Any suggestions on manufacturers that aren't going to wipe me out? I'm thinking I should go for a 15-20AH battery?

Thanks

I was looking at a way to do a straight swap within the sla rack that I have. It looked like dakota lithiums are very well priced but seems like varying opinions on how well it would work found here.

Anyone else ever gone lithium using the same older canvas bag packs? Dimensions for the bag appear to be about 12 x 4.5 x 2.5
