One Display - Two Controllers - What's on the UART?

Hi - Working on combining two Radmini power trains into a quad bike. I want to use 1 throttle, one display, two brake switches. Throttle and brakes are easy, there are off the shelf splitter cables. But the display, that's a big question!

Could I split the display cable into two, and omit the display RX (data from the controller to the display) on one controller? The display TX would be Y connected to both controllers.

What exactly does the controller TX to the display? Speed? RPM? Anything else?

Would the below diagram work?

Thanks!

I’ve wondered the same thing. I ended up getting this kit here…

BrainPower Controller https://a.co/d/4TPfqTN

The diagram was included…

I wasn’t brave enough to try with KT controllers.

Note the “Dual drive signal interaction”. The RX, 48+, throttle, brake, and reverse were all used.

Awesome! I’m glad that was helpful.

One thing I noticed was about the displays that are included with most BrainPower controllers is, that the displays were usually limited to 20 amps. The kit I linked to was limited to 23 amps, but my battery bms is limited to 20. So ultimately, it wasnt an issue.

Also, you may want to check Aliexpress. They sometimes have better deals, but long shipping times. To me, it’s worth the wait.

Somewhere around here there's a thread where someone did setup a bike (or scooter) with two controllers using just one display, so they can use the display to set the assist level on both controllers, etc.

I can't recall which controller/display they used, though, and cant' find the thread ATM, but IIRC they had some stuff that had to be worked out to get it going just right.

AFAIK there is just operational data from the controller sent to the display, like speed, power, etc., battery level is usually determined inside the display, and all the setup menus/etc are generated by the display (which is wny some displays won't show all hte options/etc that a controller may actually support, or it'll show options that don't change controller behavior no matter what you set them to, etc).

What do you need the display to do for you?
