Hi There ES Peeps,
I've been searching around to see if there is already a thread for this issue and haven't found anything. But if it's already out there, please let me know.
I own a somewhat modern steel cyclocross bike. As such, as a general rule, I use cranksets with integrated spindles and outboard bottom bracket cups (i.e. Shimano Hollowtech, SRAM GXP, FSA MegaExpo, ect.). However, pretty much all the e-bike products seem to made for square-taper BB's. Specifically, it seems like all the PAS sensors on the market are designed around square-taper BB's.
So has anyone seen PAS options for outboard BB Cups? Either DIY or production versions?
From my research so far, I couple options:
1) Chainring mounted magnets - http://www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/torque-sensors/pas-12p-chr.html
2) Drilling out/Gluing on a split magnet ring - http://www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/torque-sensors/pas-12p.html
2b) I imagine you could also easily sandwich this "ring" style sensor behind the outboard bearing cup as an alternative to using the cable-tie mounted sensor from the previous links - http://www.elifebike.com/peng/iview.asp?KeyID=dtpic-2012-8K-RJ9Q.3M8TH
0) This sensor style also seems intriguing, but no idea how you could make it work with external/outboart BB cups - https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-kit/705-dual-hall-sensor-12-signals-easy-assembling-pas-ebike-kit.html
I suppose I'm just surprised by the lack of options at this stage in ebike evolution. There are a ton of modern cranks (maybe the majority?) using integrated spindles - either 24mm or more recently 30mm. The options above could work, but if you've got a nice integrated spindle crankset, gluing isn't an attractive premise. And chainring bolt circle diameter (BCD) standards are all over the place these days (annoyingly). Definitely limits your options
