So I have this gorgeous Perm PMG 132 courtesy of Methods. However my design has changed a bit, and I'd really like to use this motor on a left hand drive bike. Since the motor is designed to be a clockwise turning motor, this isn't going to work as is.

So my question is: What exactly determines the directionality of these motors, and how can I reverse it? Would it be possible to simply swap out the brush-holders from a motor of an opposite timed motor? Or is there something else going on?

Thanks!

P.S. It actually looks like there isn't an opposite version of this motor, so brusholder swapping doesn't look like an option... Any input would be sweet.

Jack shaft it to whatever side your running to.
I have one of these also, & am making grand plans. Let me know what your putting yours into & I can offer ideas & drawings for your fabricator.

Personaly, I am going 2-speed all the way. 35 in low-70 in high.

Not much you can do to turn things around I'm afraid. Daft design..
They can be run at lower power/voltage in reverse, but it doesn't make much sense to give the motor a hard time.

Maybe sell it and get an Agni instead?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've been drawing up a jackshaft myself, but it seems such a shame to waste the power just to convert the drive side.

However, if I can get a 2 speed transmission out of it, now it's worth it!

I'd love to see what you have in mind Thud? I was just going to do something simple, couple of bearings and a 20 tooth sprocket on either side. I don't even need the reduction...

here is a pdf of the drawing.
.75" shafts to handle the tourqe I bumped the chain size from #40 to #35 to save space & i am pretty sure its tough enough for the perm.

the box housing all the stuff is 3.25"w x 6"l x 4"h

Sweet! So is it sequential then? How does it shift? You'll have to excuse how completely mechanically inept I am.

Any chance you plan to build a couple?
