Hi to ya all,

I'm Schmobie, love electric transportation technologies and new to posting.
I use an ebike since 2004, 2 weeks ago build myself a brand new ebike and after a few runs, it still smell "new bike"!

Anyhow, here's my question, can I position a LifePO4 Battery on its side or any position for that matter?

I searched the group and the web and I got no clear answer;
some said yes LifePO4 can be positioned on any side and some said no you can't.

For my application, positioning a LifePO4 on its side would give me a little more space in my battery bag.
But I can live with the battery upright.

What do you think?

I sure hope it's OK to lay them sideways... I was planning to do just that with some 40138 lifepo4 cells in my scooter battery pan. thanks for asking the question and hope we hear back on this :roll:

I've had my ping with the pouch cells on it's side for 3000 miles.

From what I have seen the cylinder type lifepo4 cells can be mounted in any direction. But the retangle (Thunder Sky for example) are recomended to be mounted up right. I think it's because they have a pressure safety valve on the top.

That's true, prismatic cells should be right side up. Cylinders just blow a top if they leak, and pouches puff up, so either of those can go any direction.

thanx for the replies... I'll proceed with the master plan of big sideways installed cylindrical lifepo4 cells in a Goped ESR scooter... yiahahaha :mrgreen:

Thanks all for your input.

I just received an answer back from my supplier.
He said that a LifePO4 Battery (pouched) can be lay side ways, no problems!

So from now on, my "pouched" LifePO4 bat will gladly go side ways.

Thanks again!
