Programming the Bafang Middrive BBS01+BBS02

Would someone be willing to spell out all the steps clearly in a single post, maybe as a sticky?

Software download link, USB-TTL converter to buy, connection procedure, wiring diagrams...

I know that all of this info is here already, but I'm afraid I will miss something if I try to follow it.

YES!

Hopefully someone will find these. 15EU plus 25EU shipping to the US, OUCH! This is like buying Vespa parts!

I found the USA version of their site and the part number isn't found. It is on the EU sites.
This is the closest on the USA site, but also $50.

It MUST be available to our vendors if they can get Bafang to supply them. No?

YES!

How would a display cable extender help with programming? The connector shape is the same as Bafang supplies...

I assume it would mean that the end plugged into the display could be cut off allowing wiring to the computer part.

Makes sense...should be sleeping and not posting silly questions.

Not supported in Windows 8. Has anyone found a good one that works with Win 8?

Upgrade your computer to Windows 7, the Bafang program probably has problems with Win 8 anyway.

Thanks for the link, I've just ordered one.

It's worth €25 for me.

Don't you mean downgrade to Windows 7 :p . The program works fine with Windows 8.1. The problem is getting Windows 8.1 drivers for the TTL. Cheap TTL's are not well supported when it comes to windows 8. I use a FTDIchip TTL which works flawlessly on Window 8.1 You do need to start the program in "Administrator" mode though.

No I meant upgrade. Like upgrading from Vista to XP, when you bought a new laptop infected with Vista.
Who stole the start menu?

If you, like me, like to play with various diagnostic cables, using the latest Windows version is a sure recipe for disaster.

I do usability studies for Microsoft every now and then, and every time I go in I tell them how much I prefer Windows 7 over Window 8.

Hopefully, Windows 9 will be better... They seems to skip every other generation with hits & misses...

Bunch of dinosaurs :p  Seriously Windows 8.1 has a heap of features over windows 7. Just the fact that it boots in under 30 seconds is a bigger enough incentive to use 8.1. I agree that it can be problematic with trying to find drivers for various diagnostics cables though.

We had lots of resistance within our office (which is full of programmers and power users) Everyone hated Windows 8. However 8.1 made a massive difference and now most are onboard. It works especially well if your have a laptop with a touch screen. I use the top spec Lenovo X1 Carbon which is a joy to use on 8.1.

Get with the times boys :p :p

I use Classic Shell to emulate win 7. When my win 8 laptops boot they look and operate just like I was running win 7. But I can flip back and forth between win 8 and win 7. At one point I was trying to load McAfee (supplied free with my U-verse). At the time they could not download if you had Win 8 on your pc. So I just downloaded it while in the Classic Shell Win 7 emulation and it works fine.

I wonder if this would solve some of the programing problems with some TTLs.

Kepler: Your 100% correct Win 8 does boot faster then other Win OSs and even has a lot of neat improvements too. But they did a lot of thing to make many people's lives just a little harder. Like if you want to start your pc in a "safe mode". Remember in the good old days you just hit F8 while booting up? Not no more! There are ways of doing it but not as easily. Just one of the many things they did this to speedup the startup.

Wouldn't it be great if the app store allowed you to query like you can on your Droid phones or I-pads and so on. Typical of Microsoft they did it halfway with the hope we will follow like sheep while they figure out another new system to sell us.

Sorry!! Microsoft isn't my favorite company. But I do appreciate you and all the help you've given me and hope you will continue to.........

BTW; at 67 does I already know I'm a dinosaur.

Help, for some reason I am no longer able to read or write to my BBS02. I have been programming with no problems for quite some time and then the last time I went to write to it nothing happened.
I am getting a connection still with the software but now when I try and read the drive I get no data, it will not write either???
Bike is still fully functional no display error and appears to have nothing wrong with it. I tried from another PC and same problem, checked the cable nothing wrong with that, anyone have any ideas?

If you get message serial connection error - go to control panel and force renumber Com port from for example COM26 to COM 6 ( less than COM 10 ) and it works perfect!

p.s. Thanks to Kepler for help me with this issue

This plug looks promising. I haven't found any data on the exact diameter of the plug but the pin outlooks to be the same.

6-pin mini xlr connector. The metal shield will most likely need to be removed in order to work. I'll find out when my plug arrives.

Also, cross your fingers, I have my Chinese contact checking on 25 connectors and 25 bafang original programming cables.

If he comes through with the actual cables I'll let everyone know and sell them at cost. Cross your fingers.... :D

i just order one of this what you found
will see in one month what ill receive :D

this is not ok

Word of caution folks. I just ordered a replacement controller for the original that fried the first hour. New controller is a slightly de-tuned 20a unit and uses a different cable which I had to purchase along with the correct mating connector brake levers and throttle to mate up with the new C961 display. Hopefully it is more reliable.

Just thought I would post my project. I don't have the time or energy to try and make an 'easy' plug for programming especially since once I get it the way I want it I will most likely rarely change the settings.

I used 'machine pin sockets' since they have a really nice round hole in them and seem to perfectly snap onto the pins. Then I just soldered some wires to the back of them and 'tinned' the bare wire at the other end for a push-in fit to my all-in-one USB to TTL adapter. I have included some pictures.

I like to finish things off as clean as possible so I had some multi-color heat shrink tubing as well just to make sure that the metal ends could never accidentally touch.

Thanks to Kepler, pjgold, crossbreak and Tom L along with the others that got this thread 'cooking'. 8)

On the week end I connected a watt meter up to my BBS02 750w just to see what it is actually working at.
I have my max amps set to 16A in the software and to my suprise my peak watts on the 100% setting is 1148w this is more like 22A-23A with my EM3ev 48v frame pack battery.
Interesting to note that my PAS and Throttle watts are identical now with the changes to the software settings I have made.
So it seems that I have been riding aound with a lot more assist than I thought. Curious to me is the readings that Kepler got at 20A in the software were less ? I am just using one of the ebay watts up type of meters but I understand they are pretty acurate.
