Hey guys/girls, chasing a bit of advice.
I have an older hub motor with a wind on disk brake.
The thread is now non existent so the rear disk brake does not work.

I have temporarily fitted a caliper rim brake but it is pretty ineffectual.

The easy way out of this would be to make the rear caliper brake more effective.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

The bike does not have the mounts for a good v brake, just the single hole in the frame for a caliper system or mounts for disk brakes.

I could replace the hub motor casing with a newer one that has the disk brake mounting holes (not the wind on type that it currently has)
The motor is the typical Chinese made one.

So I guess my question is do I beef up the caliper brakes or get a new motor casing somehow, or get a whole new motor?

That's a cover, not a "casing" and I think they are available with a intergral free wheel mount.
I don't use that "universal" DD motor, so I don't remember where I saw the cover for sale, but perhaps someone who uses that motor will know.
You might want to re-title this thread to;
Replacement cover for "yescom" style direct drive hub motor?

The problem is, it's very likely that when the cover was upgraded to the disk ready type, the axle machining also changed. So the old model motor may not be able to use the new style cover.

I could be wrong, but since motors like that are pretty cheap, just find a bare motor to replace it. It will be easy enough to swap in the new core, and both covers into your built wheel. That's a swap that can work ok.

If it turns out the axles are still identical, nothing wrong with having a spare stator around.
