There are times when I wished we just had the filter.

TylerDurden I think at root your problem is that you have no real projects of your own. It's the absence of anything for you to work on that makes you so bitter.

 My advice...

Get a project started... do something... anything... so that you can join the club of innovators.

Playing the role of the critic is a sad profession. Critics are nothing but negative. Builders, designers, writers, etc have a positive world view. Be a creator, not a destroyer. (it's better karma anyway)

Doing what you do is very bad karma... if you believe in that...

Also, there is no such thing as "yesterday". You might have once built a bike, but the moment you aren't building new one's it's "over" for you. Start fresh... get a new life for yourself...

Thank you for that! I mean that in the most sincere way:

As the OP, you have broached a subject that is near and dear to me... ME ! The term "broach" means "to open up"... and since you have broached the subject of ME to the topic, it is fair game for anyone on these forums to post in this thread about ME !

So, remember ME whenever you are about to post some irrelevant crap in somebody else's topic... because when you do, ANYONE on these forums is free to stop by your little sandbox and add another post about ME , in big, colorful fonts.

And as much as you love ME , I'm sure you would rather keep this thread about your SLA powered wheelchair.

Your existence here tends to make me think that the filter is the best remedy. There's just no reason for your behavior and ideally with a filter I could make your abusive postings (fight club postings) be eliminated.

It's definitely bringing up policy decisions that might (unfortunately) need to be pursued despite all our hopes and ideals of not having to.

 Filters might be the only way to preserve the technical value of this forum.

I am relatively new to this forum. So, forgive any ignorance related to any other discussion beyond this thread. However, I must chime in here.

In a previous post, Safe was accused of posting something rude and/or selfish on someone elses thread regarding battery technology and this seems to be the start of this flaming here. Again, I am new here and I have not read the affore mentioned thread that Safe posted on. However, it seems to me you ar elowering yourself to the level you are accusing Safe of.

This is Safe's thread. He is not being a ego maniac by posting his personal findings here. This is his thread. He can post anything about his projects that he wants here. If he did something inapropriate in another thread, it should be dealt with there, not here in this thread.

Some of us actually want to see this project and glean whatever knowledge we can from it.

I am not attacking anyone. I just want to see this flaming stopped so we can get back to the build.

My $.02

Matt

Quite right.

Anything safe posts to this thread is an invitation for comment: be it about ME, current warping, MCL, Ice-Kissing, Heat-ratings... or possibly something of value.

Several posts reported to Admins, It's time someone got wrapped on the knuckles. This has obviously gone to the point of sheer harassment.

Really?

Show us where any posts to this thread were not in reply to a post by 'safe'.

You are really a jerk.
I won't dispute that.

But anybody as smart as you knows, there is always more that you don't know, than there is that you do.

Such as this thread
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3040&start=30

The OP (safe) can steer the thread to any subject... he cannot be declared OT.

Whatever he brings to the thread is fair game, and comments about them are on-topic.

Both safe and markcycle are opposed to comments in disagreement with their opinions.

That is what blogs are for: one-sided communication.

This is a forum.

If OPs derail their own topics, it is their own fault.

He has been trying to steer you away from his threads and you won't shut your mouth.

Safe is not opposed to comments that are in direct oposition to his opinion. I have disagreed with him without problems. I think that is because I do not attack him the way you do with condescending comments and a rude attitude.

What is the deal with these forums? Good grief. I left the PA Yahoo forum because Randy is an absolute self absorbed jerk, then I come here and see this garbage.

I am a member of an RC forum with over 6,000 posts to my record over the last 4 years and this refuse is almost never present and if it does come up, it is dealt with.

I am sick of this trash.

 Just hang in there.

There are some software changes that if implemented will block this type of behavior. As a former corporate software programmer I know all about "per thread" access. It's very easy (given the built in "Friends" and "Foes" architecture) to filter out "Foes" from a thread produced by someone.

So in my case I could simply place TylerDurden into my "Foes" box and he could no longer post to my threads. (assuming the change was made) This doesn't lock him out of the system completely, but he would be blocked from harassing me.

It's like placing a lock on your own door... you are allowed to protect your own home, but you can't protect anyone else... that becomes their responsibility.

How's the project/s coming along?
I got four chargers today. Originally I had ordered eight 0.5 amp chargers, but they ended up out of stock for those and so they sent me four 1.5 amp chargers for the same price. It was supposed to be $20 more, but the guy just said "what the heck" and gave me a freebie. I guess he wanted to get off work and head out for the holidays. (this was a few days ago)

 Tomorrow I expect the batteries to arrive.

The 288 NiCad SubC's will be divided so as to power the Projects #002 (160) and #003 (120) with 8 cells to spare. (runt replacement)

Project #001 has been done for a long time and now I'm mostly just documenting mileage and commenting on maintenance issues. It's been a big success.

Yes Pleaaase! can we stick to the technical stuff and stop the personal attacks here.
If this gets out of control the thread will be locked.

I really want to see this thing run.
 Keep in mind there are two new projects in the works:

Project #001 - Completed, tested, refined, 3,600 miles+ (this is actually it's thread)
Project #002 - Frame and Forks are done, more stuff to do.
Project #003 - Frame and Forks 75% completed.

...I'm expecting the batteries today and it's already almost 7pm so it's starting to look like they won't be here until tomorrow. However, I've had deliveries this late before.

Todays Average Speed

 Distance - 10.78 miles

 Time - 23 minutes, 13 seconds (1393 seconds)

10.78 / 1393 * 3600 = 27.86 mph average

(which beats my old best of 27.69 mph)

A had to follow a slow moving car on the downhill section, so I think there's still room for improvement... :)

...and still no batteries. I think they "forgot" and only sent them after I sent an email that they weren't here yet. :?

Moto #2

 Distance - 10.75 miles

 Time - 21 minutes, 7 seconds (1267 seconds)

10.75 / 1267 * 3600 = 30.54459 mph average

Over 30 mph average! (a new bike record)

Finally... and I took a lot of chances out on the road to do it. On one sweeper turn that is completely blind on the exit I went into it fully leaned over at about 30 mph and a car was exactly where I didn't want it to be on the other side. Whew! Not a lot of room to spare.

So I can finally put that one to rest... I've been able to maintain an over 30 mph average for a range of over 10 miles that includes hills and turns and your basic real world stuff. No velodrome needed to make it happen. :)

Rear Hub Upgrade

For at least the last 1,000 miles I had been watching my rear hub wearing out. At first I could go for a few hundred miles before needing to tighten the bearings, but towards the end it was needing to be adjusted every ride. When I took it apart the cup which was made of some really low quality mild steel had actually been deforming and the bearings actually had dug a groove. If I kept using it the cup would fail as it had done with a previous hub made by the same company. On the last failure I was going slow so it was no big deal... this time I wanted to be sure it would not happen at a bad time. (better preventive than after the fact)

So I managed to remove the old cup and switched to a new cup from some other hub I had dismantled before. There was some additional work that was needed to get it all to fit, but it seems to have been successful. After a short 3 mile ride I readjusted the new setup and then went out for one more ride. At the end of the second ride things had not changed, so it's ready to be tested for longer distances. Most hubs need an initial settling and then get into a state where they last for a long time. I'm hoping this will last at least another 1,000 miles or more. We will see... :)

Was this parts from a "Toys are Us" bicycle that wore out?
