Schaeffer grease alternative?

Hi all,

I asked my BBS02 supplier (EM3EV) the recommended grease for the steel reduction gears and they suggested "Schaeffer 238 Grease Moly Ultra Supreme #1".

I'm not able to find anyone to supply this brand in Australia, does anyone know a suitable alternative?

I have read about others using clay based Mobil 28 and lithium based Mobil SHC 100 but I don't know enough about grease to know if these are compatible.

The key ingredient you are looking for is a grease containing Molybdenum disulfide, or "moly".

Some alternatives: (your recommended grease was a NLGI 1 a thinner version. It is a bit harder to find than the thicker NLGI 2. The thinner grease is better with gears as it tends to flow back into the crevices and is not pushed out to the casting and adheres where it does no good.)
Mobilux EP 1 Moly
Castrol MOLY grease
CHEVRON MOLY GREASE EP 1
Valvoline Multipurpose Moly 1

So you are looking for a NLGI grade 1 grease, that contains Molybdenum disulfide.
