Scott Ransom, carbon frame e-bike build

well i am going to start a new build something a bit lighter than my custom intense m3
the frame is a full carbon scott ransom and i am going to use some of the bits off the m3
thinking of going for a geared 8fun motor or something a bit lighter than the hs4080
if anybody is building a carbon e-bike let me know how you are getting on
i dont know if the carbon frame will be any good as a e-bike hope the hell it dont snapppppp
but i am not going to be doing big jumps tho. just fun on the road

plus my m3 i am going to sell i have a a123soft pouch 48v 20ah that fits in the mei will be selling to

I have a Scott Ransom Carbon 10, I never thought of it as ebike material, but maybe you intend to apply hacksaw to frame? This could get interesting, I love the three level setting of the equalizer though....

no no cutting this frame up
i wish to keep the std look of it and keep it light as i can
but wish to keep the speed to 30 to 40 mph
i am looking for a setup that i can use as a e-bike as well as a std mounting bike #
we will see how it will go

Very nice frame. Are the dropouts aluminium? Looks like you have plenty of anchor points to attach torque arms too. Will be interested to see what you come up with.

just like to say i love your carbon 29er build
when i see your 29er build i said to by self i wish to build a full suspension carbon ebike
i have a custom built intense m3 i love it but its in ya face looks attracts the police
and its no light weight at 46kg or 7.2 stone so i am going to sell it

still the new build
the lower swing arm is alloy just the bottom part and the dropouts are aluminium yes lots of good anchor points
the frame is used and has dings and marks on it so i am going to flat it down and re-clear coat it in 2 pack ici clear
should look good me hopes
will add some photos this weekend of me starting it
as for a motor i have a hs 4080 but i think it going to be a bit over weight for it
s thinking of using g the mini conhis motor or the same as you the 8fun
what sort of speed you getting out of your 8fun
i am looking for about 30 to 35 mph
how is your carbon frame holding up i love the way you got it as you look at it you would not think its a e-bike :wink:
thats how i am hoping to get my build like ????? is it a e-bike or is it a std bicycle ?????

well i started re- clear coating the frame to day did the top rear swing arm did it so all the frame numbers are still there ect looks a lot better
now i have flatted of the rough battered ransum transfer stickers 8)

Why dont you go a mid drive? there are some real nice kits avalible that would suit a nice frame like this. This one for example http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50188
This set up would make for a great lightweight setup. Go the 750w system. I would go for this had i not modded my drop outs so it cant be undone. Just an idea that i think would be awesome.

Nice Crank! Hope the rest of this build follows that level of quality. My build is running a mxus 500w motor + kit that hyena put together for me. Will be running somewhere between 3-5000watts through it on 20s lipo. Maybe this is the kind of motor your looking for with this build if you dont like mid drive??

sounds like i nice build
i have two hub motors but that are a bit big for this build
1000w conhis motor
and a crys hs4080 new never had it on the road yet going to stick some bits upfor sale in a moment

I have to say, this is the last frame I would think to convert to electric unless one were to chop out a section and replace with a structural battery box.

And now I have to go check that cable rub area on mine...

well its slow
i had to sell my intense m3 +motor plus other bits to fund this build
now its all gone i have some money to get the bits for this
just got the bmc v4t motor and 50amp controller to day its small and light
front ends all done
problems with the carbon crank arm set up at the moment got to get a special bottom bracket
batterys not in stock for 6 weeks :| got some new photos to stick up when i get time at weekend

Nice choice of motor and controller. I am glad you have gone geared hub rather then big direct drive for this build. I run a Bafang code 12 on 80V and 3000W on my Fighter. This gives me 65 kph flat out and enough power to tackle just about anything I can throw at it.

In regards to batteries, you have a bit of a challenge with this bike to stay with the light weight stealth approach. I would consider the handle bar bag approach as a viable option. You could even look at large seat bag and handle bar bag giving you about 600Whrs.

In regards to my carbon 29er, the frame is holding up great. I now have it setup with Fox Float front forks and use the bike not only for commuting but also quite a bit of single track work. I can understand why some would wonder why bother with a carbon frame but lighter is better even on an Ebike. And of course, carbon just looks great no matter what type of bike it is. 8)

i was thinking of getting this from keith in ireland
he got me the motor and controller and he gets them from coghog on e.s
its not to big and yes i think the handle bar bag approach is best to
this is the specs he sent me below

The batteries are 58.8v max, 14S 10Ah and are made up of 14no 9959156-10c li-ion pouch cells. They are as the model name suggests 9.9 x 59 x 156mm and 10c which means they are capable of 100A continuous current. The BMS is rated at 50A cont with 120A overcurrent and also keeps the cells in balance and has a temp probe buried between the cells. The pack dimensions are approx. 80 x 60 x 320mm. :wink:
