Hi All,
I have been more of a reader/lurker on these forums because usually I have way more to read and learn than of value to share!
So anyways, the last week in July the Detroit Maker Faire is occurring. This will be the third year I've attended and usually I just roam around and try to see if I can help out any of my fellow LVL1 hacker space members who have various things up there to show off. Flaming animatronic toy pony, Power Racing Series (souped up type power wheels cars).
This year I was hoping to do a bit more sharing than browsing and applied for and got approved to have some space as a maker for showing off e-bike stuff.
I have nothing fancy at all compared to most of you guys but hopefully it would be enough to show to folks and answer any questions that I can.
I can also share with them some of the pluses and minuses that I have personally experienced and maybe save some folks trouble if I can.
Of course the biggest thing I hope to share with them is about the existence of this great ES community and forum.
So, basically I am reaching out to you all to see if anyone has any ideas about what they'd think would work/would be of value for sharing with folks who may be pretty handy but not 100% familiar with E-bike stuff.
So here's what I am basically thinking as of right now:
- My main ebike - Basic SS beach cruiser with a 36V 500W DD read hub kit from Cellman with the 6fet controller running with a 48V 10ah ping batt.
- Maybe a mock up on a board showing my previous setup driving a wheel. Generic brushed motor/controller. This could be a little hands on type thing some folks or younger people may like perhaps?
I thought it would also be good because it would show the basics of what is needed to electrify a bike. Motor/Controller/Throttle/Battery. I don't think the specifics of whether or not the mock up is brushed or brushless matters as much and could be noted on the display.
-Various graphical info boards that mention various facts/figures perhaps different costs (diy vs retail ebike).
-Info board dedicated showing the prominent resource that ES is (making it clear I am not doing this in any official way on behalf of ES just making sure folks know about it and maybe some pics of some of the rigs (with permission of the various owners).
-Was wondering if anyone knew where I could maybe get a broken but not obliterated (maybe a lost cause as one that is not obliterated would be salvagable and not easily obtainable) DD wheel/motor so that I could maybe display it with the sides off so folks could peek inside and see how the brushless motors look on the inside. Of course I could do this with a postboard/print but its always neat to have a real life demo. Its not in my budget to buy one to show but if anyone knows where a busted one could be had from or borrowed/returned that'd be pretty awesome.
Anything else that you all think would be good to share or not share (if anyone thinks something may be info overload).
Basically I just want to share with folks this fun hobby, show them what I did, show them some options if they are interested, and let them know of the awesome community resource that ES is for getting from idea to completion.
Sorry so much text! I'll put a TLDR up top!

PS. I think I remembered seeing some folks last year mention that they would be attending Detroit Maker faire, if anyone on here is going this year and isn't doing there own thing/display and maybe wants to show their bike let me know!
