is there any differences in the way that motors are wound or the configuration of the magnets in sensored verses sensorless ?

because i have an rc exc and it will spin the spindle motor from an old hard drive that is sensorless while the motor from an old air conditioner unit is sensored will not spin it acts like as if 1 phase wire is not connected.

it got me to thinking are sensored motors have a different winding configuration or magnet configuration?

There's no direct correlation or relationship between winding types and sensored/sensorless.

Hall Sensors just tell the controller what position the windings are relative to the magnets. A sensorless controller senses (iirc) back EMF to determine relative motor orientation.
