So I bought an Ego-Kit,the 3400W one. Worst Idea Ever. HELP!

Got me thinking :D
Can we mostly agree on cost, weight, stock durability, configuration and repair/ reconfiguration ease between pouches and cells? What about more broadly and generally speaking of large VS small cells, for the purposes of manufacture ease, reliability, and servicability. . . etc ?

UPDATE

Been on vacation in Asia. Here is the newest on my ego-kit saga. Note, it still doesn't work at this point.

Which wires are you referring you? Where do they go? If you get a different BMS it will not have the leads for that power meter.

The 3 leads are called balance wires and they are specific to the charger and not used on the connection to the bike I have found.

Did the batteries stay charged after you charged them with a cell phone charger?

All but two sets of 7, which go back down to 2.31v or so. I can assume those sets have alteast one bad cell, The whole pack is now scrap and I will be selling it on ebay for someone to tear apart and recycle the good cells. Note, I will also be selling the charger since it is specific to the Ego-Kit battery pack BMS.

Did the person that said they could contact the company the sold you the system to get you parts help you out?

No.

I have ordered a battery and charger from Luna Battery (as many of you said I should). When they arrive and I install, I will update this thread again. Thanks for the help, could not have done this without you all. I have learned a lot so far and hopefully this thread will help others. (if I ever get my Ego-Kit to work.....)

No.
correct. because i offered it but wasn't asked to contact them.

I think he was referring to Trailsurfer, the fake endless account with 3 posts, Ego-Kits probably made.

Izeman, you were very helpful and I could not have figured out what to do without you, thank you very much.

In other news, I am just about done switching out batteries, should be firing up the kit for the 1st time ever very soon. I'll update when I do.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

New Luna Battery installed and the kit tests good. Everything seems to now work. Now time to install on my bike and give it a test ride. Will post again with update when I do. Thanks again for all the help everybody.

Got to ride the Ego kit for the 1st time, I have about 50 miles under my belt and here is my impression.

This is not for aggressive riding or top level DH, the kit adds weight, but more so, the kit will break with a big hit, there is a lot exposed. If you want to do big hits and drops on an ebike go with a Stealth bomber. My bike is fun to ride on trails but accelerating aggressive on anything bumpy may destroy your rear derailleur as well, I have completely destroyed two because of acceleration on bumpy surfaces causes the chain to skip a bit and under the kind of power the motor puts out it can twist up in the derailleur and be catastrophic. (this is another reason the stealth is better for jumping and real bumpy trails, it has a single speed type drive.)

This mid-drive kit is best for low speed smooth hill climbs and high speed on tarmac like surfaces (my current gearing gets me to 35-40mph). Riding high speed on bumpy surfaces is OK, but you can not accelerate hard without risking damaging your drive train. I found there is so much torque that the chain can skip the cassette it you accell to hard on too high of a gear, so you always have to work your way thought the gears like you would with a 2 stroke. The stealth bomber has a gear box on the front and avoids this issue.

So all in all, I enjoy it, does it allow my DH bike to take the same DH trails as I would with out it, no, but I can take regular trails at 35mph which feels about the same.

Would I do it again? Hell no. Worst idea ever, I love jumping and drops, both of which would destroy the motor or controller with one well placed bottom out. I do enjoy it for everything else as well as the cool factor.

Hope this help future ebike buyers consider all angles of ownership.

The end.

Could you upgrade the drivetrain to handle the torque or is it just not worth the money?

I am already running SRAM X0 Type 2 and the special chain included with the kit. I think the issue is the design of the bike drivetrain, it is made for moderate torque, not what this thing cranks out. If anything I would suggest going single speed/no derailleur with the a front chain tensioner to eliminate this issue. (A single speed would of course have its major down falls as well). I am happy with being delicate with the throttle just to keep my normal bicycle parts on it.

Mate just a quick but sort of obvious question.
What happened when you received the faulty item and tried to deal with the vendor?

Hmmm. I really don't agree. I know the ego kit and similar kits and if they are made for something than it's bashing through trails. You can do jumps and moves which you will NEVER be able to do with a 10kg+ wheel in the back.
I never had a chain dropped or derailleur crashed after 2000k+ trail riding.
And the motor adds way enough power to have a lot of fun riding uphill.
