Tidal Force : "The Long Ranger"

hey guys.. here is an update. Went to see the surgeon today... they tried a non surgery route which involved hanging my hanging my hand from chinese finger traps and putting a 10lb weight on my elbow to pull the bone out the joint. The doctor then smashed my wrist into new half cast splint the splint to flatten my wrist and straighten the bone... Im so glad i took 2 oxycotin before going there... I was high as a kite but man after the visit i was in so much pain. I took the meds about 1:15 my appointment was around 2:30 I didnt leave until 4:30-5. So the meds were well on their way to wearing off. Every bunp in the road on the way home was torture. My arm was stable until they pulled it out of the joint.. the best way I can describe is a broken wooden match head that someone struck too hard and they straighten it back out but its a loose fit. Even tho my arm is in a half cast the wrist feels loose like the skin is the only thing holding it on. You can feel the bones scraping and touching ..creepy feeling. The will operate on my arm next wed thet will put a plate and pins on the bone and up to 3 different casts.

I want to thank those that bought my items. Please bear with me while I get them shipped . You will get photos and detailed packing info. The 4th is coming up also so bear with me.

Im not the one to beg.. I do have my ego and self pride but selling my item covers part of my medical bills / co pay and salary for less than a month. If you have anything to spare I would appreciate it and my wife does also. Apparently there is an out of pocket facility fee I gotta cough up for the op that insurance doesnt pay for. Paypal Khristopher2000inbox@hotmail.com

Id llike to thank Cory for his contribution. Danny for scoopin up 90% of my items and Oatnet for getting the Lumenator

My mom just got both of her knees replaced and she said that getting hooked on the pain killers and getting back off of them was worse than the actual pain in her knees. She's a tough lady too. I've been busted up alot and had a few kidney stones and anymore, I won't even take pills. I started taking a bunch of ibuprofen for a wrecked knee a few years ago and it made my blood pressure go crazy and it hasn't been right since so be careful with all of that stuff. I know your arm hurts like all hell but I'd personally rather feel my arm hanging from a scrap of skin that feel the pill dt's ever again. I've definitely felt both and it's an easy call in my book. It sounds like you have a smart doctor as far as getting you fixed up goes. I'd try some herbs (good ones) for the pain, to help you sleep, to help you stomach the pills, and also to help ween you off of them. It's not everyone's cup of tea but when I get an MRI, a crowd of doctors usually gathers around the screen like it's a freak show and I don't take anything for pain that doesn't grow out of the ground.

As far as financial assistance goes, I'd love to help more but extra cash is a cruel joke to me right now. I'm unemployed, just moved to a new town, and trying to get a new business going with a tiny budget on a credit card......
As a person who has faced quite a few medical bills I could never afford, I can offer some advice though. Continue to live your life and do whatever you can to bite those bills off in chunks. As long as you pay something, they have to work with you. They'll tell you different sometimes but if you send them a check, even if it's for $25 when you owe them $2500, they'll cash it and let you in the door for your next appointment. I'd use the cash you have now to try and get some kind of business going. For a person as smart and organized as yourself, self employment can be a good way to go. Just find a niche and run with it. I've painted curbs, done landscaping, mobile car stereo installs, made bass tapes, ......all kinds of little things that were cheap and easy to get into and paid the bills for a while. I really think this electric bike thing is about to take off big and you definitely have a knack for it. I bet if you gave it some thought you could get some stuff going in your town.

Here's one idea.
Ordering stuff from China a few little pieces at a time generally sucks. It's inefficient, takes a long time, they don't pack stuff well sometimes, bad quality control, mis-communicated orders, stuff on perpetual back order, shipping damage, returns.... We all know Hobbyking has the best deal on batteries for now but I'm sure there are other people out there like me that don't want our credit cards going off to China for who knows what right now. I think that watching for popular items to come into stock from sketchy suppliers like them, then buying it, testing it, and reselling it could be quite profitable. If someone was willing to stock some good lipo from China, test/inspect/cycle the cells once they get over the pond, then resell the good ones, I'd gladly pay double for 30C lipo packs, and probably 30% over HK retail for nano tech stuff.

For instance, for many reasons, the batteries I just bought from you are worth more to me than new ones straight from hobbyking. Why? Basically, it's because I know what I'm getting. I've seen them on video! In use! You've cycled them a few times, given duds time to show up. You got lucky and got undamaged cells in the first place and kept them in good shape. And most importantly, my money is going to help another honest, nice, intelligent, contributing person that happens to be in a time of need instead of going to some dude in China....or some dude in Australia with a tiny percentage of it staying with the folks in China that do all of the work.

Another for instance. After HK sent me under-packaged, beat up batteries, compromised my credit card info, then ignored me, I didn't want to deal with them anymore so I put an ad up here looking for a turnigy 80-100 motor. I paid $200 for a used one with damaged during install but upgraded ceramic bearings, a new piece of shaft that didn't fit anything, and burnt windings. Even when it came in worse condition than I expected it to be in, it wasn't a bad deal to me. Bearings are cheap and windings need to be redone usually anyway. I ended up sending that motor to Thud for him to use for parts for the motor for AussieJester's new build after I boogered it up trying to get the stator loose.

My point is, there are a lot of companies out there that sell stuff people want but have BAD customer service. If you can find the popular products, catch them while they're in stock, and redistribute them with GOOD customer service, you're adding value, making money, and not having to have a boss.

Anyway, I hope some of that helps....

If you could get that stuff shipped out before the weekend, it would really help me out. I need to get some bikes done, and sold....... soon!......or curb the ebikes again and put up some landscaping flyers!

Bummer! I hope you get well soon and are you giving up ebike for good? I mean will you going built another new ebike after you are in complete recovery?

I'll throw you some bones tomorrow (funds).

Although my girlfriend and I are in processing buy a Yuba Mundo bike(cargo bike) this saturday. :D

Now, get well soon! ;)

ICE,

upon further thought, my guess is that you're not the first one to buy it on this bump... presumably that's a warning sign up there and there's another facing your direction?
trail_hazard.jpg
i'm not a fan of lawyers, etc, but considering your position at this point, i'd suggesting talking to someone, citing this road hazard and seeing at least if the city/county whomever could kick in for your medical bills at least. really can't hurt.

were you really speeding? no one needs to know... yank that vid down, and start making some calls...

Forcing the tax payers to pay for it with a lawsuit isn't the way to go. That bump is totally, easily ride-able at legal speeds on any bike and a judge will see that too. Ice is a good man with some brains. I'm absolutely positive that if/when he really needs help, his friends, family and community will be there voluntarily

I was going up the hill
Less than 20mph The sign is just a warning for bikes to slow down.. on the way down but not on the way up... its a bike on a a hill

In the video i slowed it down to normal speed to prove i wasnt doing any stunts.

Dude that sucks you have to sell off your gear.
This is the second time you've sold it all off isn't it ? Or 3rd ??
Let me know when the time comes to replace it all and I'll do my best to hook you up with what ever contacts I can.

Anyway I'm shooting you a token contribution now. I know first hand how much it can add up when everyone chucks in even a few bucks.

Thankfully healthcare is free here (well, paid for by our taxes) it cost me more to get a filling in my tooth from the local dentist than it did to have several hours of reconstructive surgery on my wrist (twice!) and then months of physio afterwards

This is the first time to save my ass .. Sudden loss of income in a household where everything counts... I need the cushion and cash for co pays bills comin up... The other two times were build transitions.... Ill be back this fall... The force might not be with me tho...

ouch!

this is a good reason to have dual motors setup. two motors can share the load on hills instead of using 100% of your power on the rear. Maybe even 70% front and 30% rear, assuming you have robo forks..

how did you get home?

you reminded me of when I decided to build my own packs in 2008 (?). I also wanted to stay flexible and not commit to one bigass pack so modularity with small packs was the goal. I had to think long and hard about the best way to go about it but thinking was not good enough cos I was really scared of shorting a123 cells, I had to draw a schematic and was glad that I did! Would be nice to have a beginner's electrical/electronics simulator software

I rode my bike home.. With hot hub motors there is a loss of output power.. and you can feel it and there seems to be increased drag when coasting while at top speed .. You feel the bike can physically move faster but when the motor is under power there is a brake sensation even though ur at top speed. Ive felt this even going down hill. (Im not confusing myself with regen braking) eventally I want a 5304 and 120v Lord and wife willing. The X5 at moderate powerlevels shows itself going the distance at 5kw constant over varying terrain. Im personally convinced of that but these smaller hubs like geared motors and the 9C arent made to generate high hp via high amps for extended periods...

FWIW, we have those flattened sections of pavement on most of the underpasses for the canal paths. They are there primarily for the handicapped in wheelchairs or mobility scooters so they can stop and rest their arms or motors while going uphill, or not gain too much speed going downhill. Some of the mountain trails also have them, but usually not, as the slope of most is too great for anyone in those things to handle (most cyclists' can't pedal up them either, even in the lowest gears, and DD hubmotors would probably melt).

I was thinking the same thing but they are poorly built to where it doesnt look intentional.. It looks like jutted up cracked pavement. But there is 3 sections like this but if you look at the rest of the trail in the other video you dont see them on the other long hils.. they arent as steep .. but the whooped my ass walking up them with my disabled bike.

Man the doctor/surgeons henchmen called me today..... wondering can I put something "down" for his services/surgery. The lady glanced at our deductible and assumed we haven't put a dent in it.... depending on how the insurance filed things my doctor cost could be $123... or $800 plus bucks.. There is that phantom facility fee and the anesthesiologist i have to deal with...man this shit is getting scary... the way they talked to me on the phone was... it was like a "friend " of theirs holding you at gun point to pay the doctor or they are going to shoot you knee out and not perform the surgery. Being that you need them they hope u were going to do the right thing... either way ur gonna have to come back to them. It will suck if the wipe out my little nest egg before i have a chance to .. it makes selling everything not worth it lol.... :( Manhood Taken!

Sorry to hear about that dude. If my sinus stuff doesn't clear up, i'm looking at ~$10k worth of surgery and i don't even have insurance.

That would wipe out my eBike budget for 5+ years. I'd be kickin it like DrkAngel, brushed motors and factory reject battery packs. LOL

Yeah, that's why I have not been able to go back for any checkups on my leg/ankle. I was denied assistance becuase they couldn't be bothered to send me the paperwork (and now they have a new rule that no one like me, single males basically, can even apply for the assistance), so my ER bill is basically unpaid; I'm trying to figure out what I have here that is worth anything to sell, but there isnt' much that is worth anything that I dont' *have* to have.

Yeah, but guys remember.. at least we don't have socialism oppressing us with accessible health care!

I'm sorry to hear about that amberwolf :(
We seriously need an ES injury fund on here.

You know what.....just tell those damn crooks whatever they need to hear to get them off of your backs until you're better.....then figure out the best way to deal with them. Get whatever cash you have out of the bank, officially quit your job and sell all of your registerable stuff to your girlfriend...or your new llc for a dollar and tell them to stuff it until they want to act right. They can't squeeze blood from a turnip right?

If they knowingly operate in an ignorantly corrupt and out of balance system and are trying to force or coerce you into anything, then screw them. To be honest, I've NEVER received a hospital bill that was anything close to reasonable cost for services rendered and never once for a second been treated like a human by a hospital billing department. That has resulted in me not paying any hospital bill I've ever had. I've told every one that $8,000 for an x-ray and shot of demerol was not appropriate and I'd never agreed to it if they'd explained the costs before doing anything. $50 for that piece of tupperware I puked in because they gave me the demerol without an anti nausea drug is unreasonable, charges from three different doctors that looked at the x-rays, said dang that's broken and walked off....and the list goes on and on. I've usually offered to pay around half and been rejected and treated like a criminal. They say that it's because the insurance industry is so screwed up but I don't care what the excuse is. Wrong is wrong and people that work in an industry that sucks.....suck. I have to be either knocked completely out or in so much pain that I'm literally in another world hallucinating to end up in a hospital.

Use the resources you have to take care of yourself NOW. Screw the bills. Get on payment plans and work them if necessary. If they were good people that treated their patients/customers with respect and charged appropriately for their services, they would get paid on time and in full but in our world they're not. They're people usually doing something that they hate because it pays unreasonably more than other professions. They're usually way overworked and stuck in the stupid hospital drama/politics garbage, and worst of all......THEY ALL KNOW THEY WORK FOR A SYSTEM THAT'S UNSUSTAINABLE, DISHONEST, AND GREEDY. Again, just take care of yourself. If your wrist is set and if everything's lined back up(which is very important!), just keep it splinted up and let it heal. You may have some work to do to regain motion and have might have some pain later on, on rainy days and such, but you'll definitely have that anyway with a bunch of screws and shit in there so it might be a good idea to let your body try to fix it first. I broke both the ulna and radius in both arms, two inches above the wrists in one stupid moment and all I got was a visit to the welfare medical clinic, x-rays, bones set, more x-rays, two leather lace up splints and two/three months later, my wrists were fine. My joint cartilage and tendon damage in other areas gives me more trouble than any of my self healed bone breaks did. I've broken quite a few and never even gone to the hospital for them, just tried to take it easy until it felt right to move/work. Thumb, ribs, wrists, pelvis, collarbone to name a few. This is all my opinion and I've never studied medicine but I have some experience wrecking bikes. Here's a trail I the rode first few miles of yesterday for example: http://vimeo.com/4038153 (not my vid, my camera would have a heart attack!)

Those people can't pressure you for anything. While I don't agree with suing the city over the bump, if you wanted to sue the hospital for over prescribing your narcotics in an attempt to weaken you to the point that their pressure tactics will succeed, making you their financial slave, and worst of all for stuff you may not even need......I'd be completely behind that decision.....

On another, more positive subject, have you talked to anyone in alternative medicine about it yet? Some of that eastern stuff is like magic. Arnica for one might relieve enough of the pain to ease your dependence on the narcotics and there is definitely other stuff that can be extremely helpful in times of pain. It's worth looking into for sure.
