Time to put the bike away..1 question..

I am with you guys. I've never used a BMS and I don't think I ever will because;
1- I monitor my packs on a cell level using the 5$ lipo alarms @ 3,6v
2- I have a controller LVC too set for 3.65*cells in series.

It is extremely difficult for me to be out of balance since I originally balanced all my packs with my icharger which was calibrated using a voltage reference which was calibrated with a really high precision.

Thank everyone for your input,but I really don't want to cut into my shrink wrap on my battery..the bike isn't going to sit for 4-5 months..I will use it on a nice winter day ride just not back and forth to work..I'll charge it about half way and bring it in the house nice and warm..if that's good..

My Cellman 16S 5P 26650 A123 pack has been sitting since 11th of November. It is still at 52.7 V where I left it. I haven't measured any single cell group voltages, because I don't want to rip open that masterpiece.

The only disappointing part about this is the fact that you haven't been riding. :p

I use both systems and never store my bikes. We ride almost daily and while Fairhope is not paradise (at least in the summer) it is ridable all year round. I have had BMS drain a few cells when I used to store my Pings and would use dnmun's switch if I had to store batteries but in normal use thaey just keep on ticking. My A123's don't use a BMS but an LVC switch and are charged with a Hyperion and balanced each time, usually 5 time per week. I think our situation these days is that you have to use both a human monitor and BMS or charger to keep them in good shape. My wife's Ping is over 5 years old and has about 15000 miles on it. It is paralleled with Fatpacks and only draws about 5-6 ah in 20 miles in the parallel format. They are charged with separate chargers and the Fatpacks have no BMS at all..
