Tip Opening shrink tubing.

I made a cool discovery and thought I'd pass it on.

If you have to open up a bunch of wiring that you have put shrink tubing on, sneak into your wife's (or mothers) sewing supplies and steal her seam ripper.
It has a very sharp tip that you will want to round off with a file to avoid damaging the wires. Once you get it started it will open a length of tubing like a zipper.

Not a very technical topic but it really works good.

I didn't have to steal one as I already had my own. (yes, I ride a frock motor)
It's been sitting on the bench since the last time I used it for splitting some small cable insulation and didn't put it back in the sewing box.
+1 on seam rippers.

there is reason you get into trouble for taking her sewing stuff. they get ruined.

i like to use a hook blade roofing knife. it is much stronger and you can get it started in the plastic easily and apply real force to cut open the insulation. if you have the regular blade type of utility cutter knife, you can buy the hook blades for it.

Would only work on single walled heatshrink, double has glue in it and also sticks to the
wire its shrunk too. Great tip none the less thanking you, wish it was posted a day earlier
though was splitting up some cables last night grrr...
