I made a cool discovery and thought I'd pass it on.
If you have to open up a bunch of wiring that you have put shrink tubing on, sneak into your wife's (or mothers) sewing supplies and steal her seam ripper.
It has a very sharp tip that you will want to round off with a file to avoid damaging the wires. Once you get it started it will open a length of tubing like a zipper.
